Every day, our interns experience the power of the ITW Business Model through real-world, on-the-job assignments. Axel Freund, an industrial management technology student at Northern Illinois University and a Safety intern at ITW Shakeproof knows this first-hand. Through his internship, Axel has been able to learn more about what makes ITW successful while gaining valuable experiences to ignite his career journey. Q: Why did you choose to intern at ITW? A: I thought the huge scope of ITW’s operations would act as an excellent catalyst for learning about general industry, business operations, and my role. Further, throughout the interview process, the folks I spoke with represented the company extremely well and showed it was a friendly place to work, which is important to me. Q: What has been your most enjoyable intern experience this summer? A: I loved working with United Way in Chicago during ITW’s Day of Action. Not only was it a great way to spend a day, but it helped me meet other professionals in the company and build my network. Q: What has been one of your biggest takeaways from your internship so far? A: There is so much to learn, and the sky is the limit. I am really getting a grasp on the scale of business and all the interworking parts in a way that previously was not on my radar. I am getting a good idea of what avenues I can take through my career to get where I want to go. #ProudToBeITW

It was fun to look back and reflect on my first summer internship experience over two decades ago for The Switchboard’s recent edition on learnings from summer jobs and internships. Thanks Julia Levy for the feature. My first summer internship was on a manufacturing floor at GE. I was a 19-year-old kid there to help make the jobs of individuals who had worked on the line for 30+ years easier. I quickly realized that getting work done depended on first building trust and credibility through non-work-related conversations, and over time, achieving small wins to eventually be trusted to drive sustainable change. Building trust still remains an integral part of driving change in everything I do, as it lays the foundation for effective collaboration, meaningful relationships, and sustainable success. Have you reflected on your first job or college internship recently? What did you learn that is still with you today? Share more 👇🏽 Check out the full article along with great insights from other leaders in the comment below.

Internships play a pivotal role in shaping the future of college students by providing invaluable real-world experience and practical skills that cannot be acquired solely through academic coursework. These opportunities offer students a glimpse into their chosen field, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in a professional setting, develop crucial professional networks, and gain insights into industry practices and trends. They enhance students' resumes, making them more competitive in the job market upon graduation. Overall, internships serve as a bridge between academia and the professional world, equipping students with the tools and experiences necessary for success in their respective careers. #Internships #NationalInternshipMonth #CareerServices #ProfessionalDevelopment #StudentProfessionalDevelopment #ETS

Trent, our summer intern for 2024, recently had a sit-down with our team for a fun Q&A session before he heads back to school. As he’s right in between his junior and senior years, Trent has been diving deep into various aspects of our company this summer. From getting hands-on experience in the shop to exploring sales, parts, shipping, field service and all three of our locations, Trent has truly immersed himself in the #JennerNation family. We’ve absolutely enjoyed having him on board this summer! ❓Q: What valuable insights did you gain from your internship? ❗A: I learned about the importance of a strong work ethic, as well as how this company maximizes profits and operates with efficiency. ❓Q: How would you describe our company culture? ❗A: Very unique. Everyone is very friendly. I feel that the many company events that happen help people build good friendships and make working here an enjoyable experience. ❓Q: How would you describe Jenner Ag as a place to work? ❗A: It’s a fantastic place to gain hands-on experience in all aspects of a company and build a career, not just find a job. ❓Q: What was the best part of your intern experience? ❗A: The best part of my internship experience was getting to work with a real company for the first time. Coming from a background of working on my family’s farm, this was a change for me. Talent Acquisition Manager @ DICK'S Sporting Goods | Leading Early Talent Recruiting Strategy & Corporate Internship Experience
Not every Internship experience provides the opportunity to learn from and ask direct questions of the President & CEO, but DICK'S Sporting Goods does. Not every Internship provides the opportunity to take on *actually important* work, but DSG does. Not every Internship provides free housing to non-local interns, takes you on a dinner cruise, puts on intern Olympic Games, or hosts a series of Executive Speakers, but DSG does. As you think about companies to engage with on campus this Fall, remember not every company does all this (and more!), but DICK’S Sporting Goods does. #dsglife #internships #earlytalent
