Fragmentation within Egypt's horticulture supply chain presents a significant challenge, especially for small growers. This fragmentation hinders access to international markets and creates obstacles to ensuring food safety.
To address this, the TAIB project has developed a Risk-Based Capacity Building Program. This program empowers exporters with the necessary skills to assess risks within their supply chains and raise awareness among suppliers on critical food safety practices. The program is specifically designed to be impactful, considering different risk levels based on crop types and incorporating supplier audit compliance history.
TAIB gathered valuable data through surveys and focus groups with exporters to ensure effectiveness. This data informed the program's design, leading to its successful delivery to 129 members of the Agricultural Export Council (AEC), the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEC), and the Chamber of Food Industries (CFI).
Through strategic partnerships with these organizations, TAIB has organized customized training courses across various Egyptian governorates. These courses focus on improving compliance with the National Food Safety Authority's (NFSA) regulations and fostering a strong food safety culture within the supply chains.
The TAIB project is excited to welcome Crop Life Middle East as a new partner! Their expertise has further enriched the program by providing informative Training-of-Trainers (TOT) sessions on pesticide residue management, as well as valuable tools that can be transferred throughout the supply chain.
This impactful training program is a testament to the power of collaboration between the Egypt TAIB project, Agricultural Export Council - AEC, CFI غرفة الصناعات الغذائية , CropLife Africa Middle East Life Middle East, and Food Export Council (FEC). Together, we are making significant strides in enhancing food safety and compliance standards within the Egyptian horticulture sector.
