It's been a month since the DAAD Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst #Hydrogen #research tour and it took me that long to process the amount of information we received during the intense week of visiting research institutions and companies in #Germany. My key takeaways from the tour: 1) Billions are being invested in research across German research institutions and a lot is going to hydrogen technologies development and research. 2) Solid-state hydrogen storage was something we saw and heard repeatedly during the tour. Something to keep an eye on! 3) There's still a lot of development ongoing on hydrogen-powered FCE vehicles. Is it too late for this? 4) Germany is keenly looking at hydrogen/derivatives importing opportunities from all around the world. 5) Although it is getting very challenging, Germany stands strong on their hydrogen strategy and decarbonisation plans. There's a strong feeling of "carrying the flag" of decarbonisation among the German research institutions, which, in my opinion, is a big and maybe unnecessary burden. I would like to thank the DAAD Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst for this opportunity. I was honoured to meet top researchers attending the tour and in the institutions we visited. I'm looking forward to what's next!

I am proud to share the recent publication of my first scientific paper about the aluminium cycle and the inertia of technology stocks!   🔍 The aluminium sector is responsible for approx. 2.2% of the global GHG emissions and its demand is increasing further. Thus, low-carbon technologies are needed to reach climate targets. But: Long lifetimes of capacities and locked-in fossil infrastructure could delay the transition, which is not included in current emission scenarios.   📜 Take aways: To avoid lock-inns, existing plants need to be retrofitted or phased out earlier than expected. To stay within a 2°C scenario requires combined actions: 1) Collection and recycling systems for aluminium scrap need to be improved 2) Fast and wide deployment of low-carbon technologies, such as inert anodes and melting furnaces that use green electricity or hydrogen as energy sources 3) Rapid transition of electricity mix to low-carbon electricity sources Technology-explicit models lead to a more realistic picture by including the inertia due to long lifetimes of industrial assets.   Read the paper here: https://lnkd.in/d5Acjedv This paper builds on my master thesis which I have written at RWTH Aachen University, Institut für Industrieofenbau und Wärmetechnik in collaboration with Industrial Ecology NTNU. Excited to share my first published article! I am thrilled to share my first published article as a co-author titled "Methodological and practical lessons learned from exploring the material criticality of two hydrogen-related products". This article has been published in the journal Resources, Conservation and Recycling. In this work, we conducted an assessment of current critical materials for managing mineral resources. We delved into several methodological criticality indicators at the product level within the context of the ecodesign of two hydrogen-related products. Our goal was to identify potential critical points and enable a fair technological comparison. Alhamdulillah, We're happy to share the publication of our latest research paper, "Date Leaves-Derived Submicron/Nano Carbon-Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode for Highly Sensitive and Simultaneous Detection of 1-Naphthol and 2-Naphthol". Welcome to read: https://lnkd.in/gQ3-XC8m Our study presents research in environmental monitoring techniques, where we have developed an innovative method to create highly active carbon from date leaves waste. By combining pyrolysis and ball milling, we've produced submicron and nanometer-sized carbon perfect for electrochemical applications. Utilizing this carbon, we engineered a modified glassy carbon electrode (DLSNC/GCE) that offers unprecedented sensitivity and selectivity in detecting phenolic contaminants like 1-naphthol and 2-naphthol. These substances are critical indicators in environmental health, making our research crucial for sustainable monitoring practices. This work not only advances the field of electrochemical sensors but also demonstrates the vast potential of biomass waste conversion into valuable scientific applications.
