Organizing Community Clean-Ups: 5 Steps to Transform Your Neighborhood 🌟 Turning a neglected area into a vibrant community space begins with organized clean-ups. Here are five essential steps to get started: 1️⃣ Choose a Local Area in Need: Identify a local area that could benefit from a clean-up. It might be a park, a street corner, or a vacant lot. Focusing on specific areas maximizes your impact. 2️⃣ Partner with Local Businesses for Supplies: Collaborate with local businesses for supplies. They may provide trash bags, gloves, or tools. Such partnerships strengthen community ties and shared responsibility. 3️⃣ Promote the Event on Social Media: Spread the word. Use social media to create buzz about the clean-up. Share before-and-after photos of the area, motivating others to join. 4️⃣ Provide Incentives for Participation: Incentives drive engagement. Offer rewards for participation, such as certificates of appreciation, small gifts, or even a celebratory event after successful clean-up days. 5️⃣ Schedule Regular Clean-Up Days: Consistency is key. Schedule regular clean-up days to maintain the area's cleanliness. Make it a community tradition to ensure long-term improvement. By choosing areas in need, partnering with local businesses, leveraging social media, offering incentives, and scheduling regular clean-up days, you transform neglected spaces into community treasures. Together, we can create cleaner, more beautiful neighborhoods. Remember, community clean-ups are more than just picking up litter; they're about fostering pride and togetherness. Let's take action today and make our communities shine! 🌳🚮🌆 #CommunityCleanUp #NeighborhoodPride #TogetherWeTransform

Let’s get this #ZeroSuicideSociety Humber-to-Mersey #JoinTheDotsTour on-the-road! Here's the schedule for Week 1 of the Tour, east of the Pennines: 11 June - Media Launch #Hull 12 June - Launch Conference Baths Hall #Scunthorpe 13 June - Panel Event "Inclusion & Missing Pieces" #York City Screen 14 June - #CycleForLife bike ride in memory of Jordan #Leeds #Wakefield 15 June - #SelfCare & #SelfCareLeadership Day #Leeds #Bradford 16 June - #FathersDay Special #Halifax #Huddersfield outdoor activity & indoor event As the Tour progresses, there'll be many different events & activities which have been organised by Towards Zero Suicide CIC & our many collaborative partners along the route. I’ll be doing talks in conference centres, universities, theatres, cinemas, football & rugby stadiums, council offices, community centres & shopping centres. In addition to the talks & presentations to invited audiences or those who've come to ticketed events which I'm used to, it will be my first experience of standing in a shopping centre putting my rig up, and talking to passing shoppers about suicide! 😳 An #education in every sense! To prepare for all these different types of events, activities & environments, I've got a couple of new banners - thank you so much Jon Eggleton 🙏 One banner has the Zero Suicide Society Transformation (Building Blocks) Model & (Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces) Framework. 🤔 The other has the #TowardsZeroSuicide 'Six Key Messages' that I'll be taking out on Tour with me to foster a more informed conversation about how to get the UK suicide numbers on a downward trend, towards zero. 🤔 Messages 1-5 have been proven time-&-again in my research to be the key messages everyone from #SuicidePrevention advocates & campaigners to the public-at-large need to FULLY understand to be able to get the suicide numbers going down, towards zero. Message 6 is 'Take the training, have a conversation'. I've reviewed & evaluated more than 20 well-meaning campaigns that urge people to "just have a conversation" or "have a conversation and save a life" or "just talk" or other disconnected permutations of advice that actually have a negative impact on those receiving the message, not a positive education nor stimulation to take action. At worst, just telling people to "talk about suicide" or "have a conversation" is traumatising because most people don't have the necessary knowledge, skills or confidence to 'just have a conversation'! 😱 They need #training. At least a basic 'gateway' training, such as the Zero Suicide Alliance training - then, hopefully, graduating to more in-depth modules & programmes, eg ASIST. So, my message will be 'TAKE THE TRAINING, have a conversation'. Then they can scan the QR Code and go straight to the ZSA online training. I'll proudly wear my Tour Shirt - not always the same one btw, I've got a few! And if anyone asks me which business I'm in, as my banners now confirm... ...I'm in the #hope business!

Today is my 21st day of work in Forthspring. I considered how I might approach this new #leadership challenge - a permanent post rather than the short term change management assignments on which I’ve led for the last decade. I decided, I would be authentic and courageous. I would drive change - it’s my place of comfort and much needed. But, I would learn and act in equal measure. I can now afford to, and have relished the luxury, of focusing beyond strategies and results to deeply understand and value my team. I’ve tried to promote empathy and understanding as foundational to how we work together. I know I thrive in deep, genuine connections, particularly during challenging times - so I need to forge them. What I love about this role is how I get to fully embrace and integrate diverse perspectives into my decision-making processes - we are founded on faith, rooted in community development, and delivering in a secular society. I want a dialogue rich environment in my community centre, and I have it. Everyday, we have art clubs, bereavement groups, pensioners tea dances, exercise classes, after schools clubs, youth provision, detached youth work, counseling, gardening, advice clinics, prayer groups and volunteering running concurrently. I have a strong, responsive team who are community focused and person centred. I am helping them embrace an open exchange of ideas where ‘Yes’ is the instinctual response to the question ‘Can we do - ’: we’ll try, we might fail, we’ll learn and we’ll try again. It’s my hope these inclusive practices will address immediate operational needs and foster a culture where all of the team know they are instrumental in driving tangible improvements across the #charity. We will engage in continuous self-reflection, reassess our actions regularly, and stay committed through challenges. We will be valued driven - but to be that - I must lead authentically, and with courage. I will joyfully embrace generosity, empathy and inclusiveness as the trademarks of my interactions with my wonderful team and our much-valued participants. I’ve kept my messages thoughtful and genuine, transparent and direct, and have spent this entire month being people focused. I’ve made one substantial change to everyone’s job description. They now share, as a priority, a singular outcome to be addressed at each supervision; 👇 Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, to all the souls you can, in every place you can, at all the times you can, with all the zeal you can, as long as ever you can. 👆 And so we’ll trade in making change, using good as a common currency, and the social return on our investment will be the health and happiness of our community. Join us for our #community lunch on June 21st for our Community Lunch from 12pm. Let us know you’re coming - https://lnkd.in/eaywkiDt if you want a free stall to share about your work, be in touch!

Responding to rising crime, Chicago's civic leaders, including Hyatt Hotels, have stepped up efforts to curb violence through a $66M 'Scaling Community Violence Intervention' campaign. With backing from the Pritzker Foundation and Crown Family, the initiative is set to enhance existing grassroots programs over the next decade. The hospitality industry has a vested interest in supporting safer cities. As demonstrated by Hyatt, businesses can make an impact through social responsibility efforts addressing localized needs. Wise investors seeking a return on investment (ROI) understand that community health is directly tied to economic health. Collaborative efforts like these underscore the power of public-private partnerships to drive progressive change. Chicago sets an example for other cities struggling with violence, encouraging them to pursue coordinated action plans backed by unified funding. #socialimpact #csr #community
