Quality management A translation agency is not merely a "phone book" for translators. ⁉ In order to provide the best deliverable with the right message adapted to the client's audience, the #LSP (Language Service Provider) has to have a quality protocol. 🔍 - Source the right provider : Credentials, experience, references; 🧐 - Test him/her or source previous translation; ✅ ❌ - Integrate him/her to the existing client/project; 🙋♀️ - Help him/her when questions arise; ❔ - Give her/him feedback when possible; - #Defend him/her when the work is attacked 🕵♀️ ; - Work as a team to show how the work corresponds to what has been requested. But it does not stop there. The #LSP reviews the document and performs a Quality Assurance Check, or #QA. If needed, the LSP makes the necessary adjustments. If publishing is requested, there is a final review of the document (and I can tell you that in my career, I performed final reviews of 500 pages Hydraulic Pumps manuals 😁- FUN ). It still does not stop here. 🤯 We have what we called the post-mortem part where we put the final touches everywhere: terminology update; translation memory update; different steps of organisation needed (change a translator, modify the team, source new providers, create a new style guide following changes, validate everything with the client). 🛌 The goal that links us all here at skriptó: High Quality final product. You create. We translate. #business #translation

✪ I provide simple and clear translations for CALD communities ✪ NAATI translations ✪ Translation Company in Australia
Early this week, I introduced machine translation and ISO 18587, and their benefits. Now, what does it mean for our human translators? Are their days numbered? The simple answer is no. The rise of MT is transforming the translation landscape, but it's not replacing human expertise. Instead, it's creating a new era of collaboration and specialisation. ISO 18587 is a key player in this, ensuring quality by standardising the human post-editing of machine-generated content. Here's what we can expect for the future of translators: ✅ Specialisation in Post-Editing: Translators will likely dedicate more time to specialized tasks like meticulously refining MT output, ensuring cultural accuracy and stylistic elements. ✅ Demand for Skilled Post-Editors: As ISO 18587 adoption grows, the need for skilled post-editors with expertise in MT technologies will rise. ✅ Focus on High-Value Projects: Translators will play a crucial role in complex content, creative materials, and other projects requiring deep human understanding and nuance. So, is MT a threat or an opportunity? I believe it's the latter! MT and human expertise can be a powerful combination. By leveraging ISO 18587 standards for human post-editing, we can achieve both efficiency and quality in translations. What are your thoughts on the evolving role of translators in the MT era? #SoniaSanchezMoreno #Translation #Translators #MachineTranslation #ISO18587 #CALD #communitytranslations #CommunityEngagement #HealthPromotion

Can translators make mistakes? Absolutely—after all, we’re only human. That's precisely why proofing and QA steps are critical in the translation process. If a proofreader identifies an error, should the translator acknowledge it? Without a doubt, yes. I once worked with an agency that insisted translators defend their work at all costs to avoid looking bad. But the truth is, acknowledging and correcting mistakes isn't a weakness—it’s a commitment to delivering the highest quality work. Continuous improvement is key to mastering any craft.

ISO 18587 is a standard that specifies the requirements for post-editing of machine translation output and post-editors’ competences. Here's why it's important: 1. Consistency: ISO 18587 helps ensure consistency in the quality of machine-translated content that is then post-edited. Without a standardized approach, the quality of post-edited translations could vary widely, leading to inconsistencies in the final product. 2. Quality Assurance: By establishing clear guidelines for post-editing, ISO 18587 contributes to quality assurance in the translation process. This is crucial for industries where accuracy and clarity are paramount, such as legal, medical, and technical fields. 3. Efficiency: Having a standardized process for post-editing can improve efficiency by streamlining workflows and reducing the need for extensive revisions. This is particularly important in fast-paced industries where time is of the essence. 4. Professional Development: ISO 18587 sets competency requirements for post-editors, which can help guide professional development in the field of machine translation and post-editing. This ensures that post-editors have the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively improve machine-translated content. 5. International Collaboration: ISO standards are internationally recognized, allowing organizations and professionals from different countries to collaborate more seamlessly. ISO 18587 provides a common framework for post-editing practices, facilitating communication and cooperation across borders. Overall, ISO 18587 plays a crucial role in promoting quality, efficiency, and professionalism in the post-editing of machine-translated content, ultimately benefiting both translators and end-users.
