I'm back from an awesome vacation with several new post ideas swirling around, - BUT FIRST - What airline do you prefer? I usually fly Southwest or United, but lately they've both left me wanting. Forbes compiled a list that proclaims Alaska, Skywest, and Spirit (?!?) as the top 3 "best" airlines. Delta ranks number 1 for reliability, and after getting home about 4 hours late last night thanks to multiple United delays (we even got standby on an earlier flight that ended up getting delayed longer than our original, already delayed by 2 hours flight!), reliability and being on time are certainly my top considerations to switch. This year we've heard of air travel horror stories, one after another. United Airlines is one of the airlines at the center of many of them with five incidents in March alone. Now they are releasing a statement to say these incidents are nothing to worry about, but they will be upping their safety precautions. At the end of the day, what I see is a Boeing problem. All of these were either on Boeing 737s or 777s, and United flies by percentage significantly more Boeings than many of its competitors. Sonoma County Airport is gearing up for airline expansions. Avelo Airlines is set to establish its base operations there on May 1st. On May 6th, American Airlines plans to boost its Dallas flights using larger aircraft. From May through August, a 20% surge in passenger traffic is anticipated due to these upgrades and more frequent flights. Additionally, Alaska Airlines is slated to commence direct flights to Las Vegas from October 1st:

I love simplicity and efficiency. If something can be done faster or easier, without jeopardizing quality, I think that should be considered. Which is why, whenever I travel by airplane, I question the boarding process of every airline I have flown on (Delta Air Lines , Allegiant, Spirit Airlines , Frontier Airlines, SkyWest Airlines, United Airlines, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and more) . Maybe someone in the airline industry can explain the reasoning, but the boarding process seems backyards to me. Airlines board first class or front seats first and then work their way to the back of the plane. This causes bottlenecks that seem to take forever to board the plane and seems very inefficient. Why do airlines not start boarding the rear seats first and work their way to the front? Fewer delays in the aisle, fewer people getting wacked in the face by purses and backpacks, fewer lines up the jet bridge, etc. My preference, even if I had a better seat, would be to load the plane as late as possible. With my long legs, I want to sit for the absolute minimum amount of time on a plane. Do you agree or disagree? #flying #airlines #airplane

Our famous view of airplanes with our home volcanoes in the background. This weekend all airports media and aviation news sources will post news about the summer season starting on this Sunday. Commercial aviation has two seasons only. The summer season starts on the last Sunday of March and ends on the last Saturday of October. The aviation winter season takes the rest. Those who've done the math may notice that aviation summer lasts for 7 months and winter for 5 months. Why do we need these seasonal changes in aviation? The season change affects mostly airlines and airports scheduling. This pain in the ass is used to adopt the flights schedule, aircraft capacity and resources to high and low demand travel periods. Some airlines also need to make some modifications to their schedules between seasons anyway due to daylight savings starting or ending at the destinations they serve or due to seasonal weather patterns that could result in stronger headwinds or tailwinds at certain times of the year. Some airlines switch to higher or lower capacity aircraft with different turnaround time.
