In case you missed it, ImVitro published a case study showing how EMBRYOLY's score correlates with aneuploidy rates. We know #embryologists spend a lot of time evaluating embryos visually, and in some cases may biopsy them for PGT-A to feel even more confident that they are deprioritising aneuploid embryos. Our findings highlight EMBRYOLY's ability to be a second pair of eyes in the decision to deprioritise potentially aneuploid embryos. This is one of many studies we have published showing how EMBRYOLY can actually make your IVF center more efficient, applied to real use cases. #ivf #ai #embryology #PGTA

A must-read! The newest European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) paper summarises 35 key recommendations and good practice points focusing on the number of embryos to transfer during IVF/ICSI treatment. The article outlines clinical and non-clinical factors that should or should not be considered when deciding on the number of embryos to transfer. https://bit.ly/3IgBfv1

Thanks to Dr Samer Hammoudeh from IVF International for his informative and thought-provoking presentation on 'Embryo development, assessment and freezing' for our latest educational webinar. Take home points included: Morphological assessment of oocytes and embryos is crucial in embryo selection. Zygotes and embryos are dynamic and change morphologhically during development. Intra/ extra cytoplasmic hetrogenicity can affect embryo development and implantation potential. Spatial distribution of cells in the embryo and partial compaction can affect embryo implantation potential. Vitrification is a game changer in fertility treatment as it has significantly increased the success rate of frozen embryo transfer. There is worldwide exponential increase in “freeze all cycles” due to safe and successful thawing of frozen gametes and embryos. Scientists reported artificial somatic cell haplodization by inducing early cleavage to produce artifical oocytes. #nowfertility #fertilityeducation #fertilitywebinars #embryodevelopment #embryoassessment #embryofreezing

🔬🌟 Maximizing IVF Success: Decoding the Role of Culture Media! 💫 In the intricate world of in vitro fertilization (IVF), the choice of culture media plays a pivotal role in shaping outcomes. Two primary types take center stage: sequential media and single-step media. Sequential media, a dynamic duo of formulations, mimic the changing conditions embryos encounter in the female reproductive tract. The embryos transition from one medium to another over a few days. On the flip side, single-step media offer a streamlined approach, providing all necessary nutrients in a single medium without the need for transitions. They support embryo development from fertilization to the blastocyst stage seamlessly. In addition to these two main types of culture media, there are other specialized media that are used in IVF, such as: - Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) solutions to prepare sperm for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI); - Hyaluronidase (V-Hyadase) for the enzymatic removal of cumulus and corona radiata cells from the oocyte before ICSI. Understanding the nuances of culture media types is key to unlocking the full potential of IVF success. 🚀 #IVFSuccess #CultureMediaTypes #EnhancingOutcomes

1. A new AI-based system called "BELA" can accurately assess the chromosomal status of IVF embryos using time-lapse video images and maternal age. 2. BELA offers an objective measure for determining embryo quality, potentially improving IVF success rates without relying on subjective assessments by embryologists. 3. The system was developed by researchers at Weill Cornell Medicine and described in a study published in Nature Communications. 4. BELA analyzes nine time-lapse images taken about five days after fertilization to predict whether an embryo has a normal (euploid) or abnormal (aneuploid) chromosome count. 5. The model was trained on a dataset of nearly 2,000 embryos and has shown higher predictive accuracy compared to previous AI systems. 6. Future plans include conducting a randomized controlled clinical trial to further test BELA’s predictive capabilities. 7. BELA has the potential to increase access to IVF technology in underserved areas, improving equity in reproductive healthcare. 8. Researchers believe BELA could also be adapted for other functions in embryology clinics beyond ploidy prediction.

My pick for today’s IVFDaily advanced publications is “Yilmaz Sukranli Z, Korkmaz Bayram K, Taheri S, Cuzin F, Ozkul Y, Rassoulzadegan M. Experimentally altering microRNA levels in embryos alters adult phenotypes. Sci Rep. 2024 Aug 16;14(1):19014. doi: 10.1038/s41598-024-63692-7. This article covers reported that “We attempted to interfere experimentally in mice with two of them, miR19a-3p and miR499a-5p by microinjecting into zygote pronuclei either the complementary sequence or an excess of the microRNA. Both resulted in low levels in the tissues and sperm of the targeted microRNAs and their pri and pre precursors. This method stably modify predetermined levels of miRNAs and identify miRNA alterations that cause changes in autistic behavior and predispose the individual to an inherited disease. “ IVFDaily reviews new articles on a daily basis as well as collating open access review articles for the textbook module. One of the most fascinating parts of IVF treatments for is watching the egg and sperm combine into an embryo before placing it back into the uterus. . Time-lapse cameras in incubators have revolutionised this process. Previously, embryos had to be removed from the incubator for assessment, disrupting their optimal environment. Now, with Genea's Geri incubator, my patients’ embryos can be monitored without interference, ensuring better quality development in their own controlled environment. . What sets Geri apart from other time-lapse incubators is each patient have their own individual chambers for house each of their embryo. Unlike other systems where embryos from multiple patients can share the same space, Geri ensures that each patient's embryos are individually housed. This means when a patient's embryo is removed for freezing or transfer, other patients' embryos remain undisturbed in their own protected space. . . . . . . #EmbryoDevelopment #TimeLapse #InfertilityAwarenessWeek #SupportAndAwareness #FertilityJourney #IVF #fertilitytreatment #dralicehuang #fertility #womenshealth #eastmelbourneclinic #gynaecology #fertilityspecialist #gynaecologistmelbourne #ivfsuccess #ivfpregnancy #ivfaustralia #melbourneivf #ivfjourney #ovulationinduction #GeneaMelbourneCity #PatientCenteredCare #FertilityJourney

Since it is about time for automation in IVF labs. I remember one bovine embryo cryopreservation experiment at the Benson lab at USASK. We were able to monitor the equilibration of embryo with minimal shrinkage and swelling. This could be a routine practice in embryo cryopreservation automation as different embryos would react differently to equilbration resulting in individual timing optimization for embryos to avoid excessive damage. This experiment also confirms the “fast and furious” protocol’s approach to be correct.
