It’s Friday again. (My weekly post on reflections - life and work) Week of much discovery. Met a few of my online connections, and made new ones at a summit over the past 2 days (EcosySTEM Asia summit for Leaders). While there were several key takeaways, my reflection is: 📌 Every segment across the industry spectrum faces their own distinct and unique challenges (+support structure) 📌 Broader engagement (across industries) provides benchmarking opportunities, finding how we can improve by leveraging strengths or best practices 📌 Cross-pollinating of ideas are possible, by strengthening concepts from diverse backgrounds and experiences Whenever we have a chance to meet with experts from different backgrounds/industries, it’s always interesting and insightful to learn the unique flavours, and their nuances. Underpinning the approach, is one of a learner and with curiosity - only then we can begin to understand and appreciate the differences and complexity. We’ve come to the mid point of the year - finishing the 1st six months of 2024, and entering into the 2H of the year. I’m blessed with much, and I’m ever grateful for many wonderful friends, colleagues and connections who have added so much value to me. I wish you continued success as we enter into 2H. Happy Friday, and a blessed weekend ahead, my friends! p/s picture of me before starting day 2 of the summit (yesterday) - chilling at Coffee Bean. #rtblog #reflection

First impressions matter. The secret to nailing them? Setting a clear intention for how you want to come across. Top tip? Pin it down to a single word. My word is warmth 🔥. 🙂 Generous smile (from my eyes more than my mouth) 🎵 Velvety tone (I wish) 🚶 Gentle pace The question is... how are we going to a sense of warmth for our newest members? --- Here's our onboarding plan for our first few weeks: 1. Day 0: Instant access to all our micro courses 🧠 So they can get started early, if they want to. 2. Day 1: Small, remote welcome parties 🎉 A chance to meet and make with friends. 3. Month 1: Tailored 'Get Help' sessions ⚡️ To overcome common challenges up front. 4. Month 2: Invitation to our Change Makers event in London 🍽️ 1 hour of talks, followed by small, curated dinners. 5. That's it. Because less is more. If we can make them feel like they belong, our job is done. --- There's still time to apply, but not much. 8 spaces left, then we're shutting our doors till 2025. Quality over quantity. MicDrop is the public speaking community for tomorrows thought leaders. We unlock the true potential of BIG ideas. DM me for more details.

🌟 Exciting Times Ahead for Unconference 2023! 🌟 The Unconference Wiki has just dropped the latest updates, providing us with a glimpse of what's in store for attendees this year. What makes this event particularly exhilarating is its dynamic and evolving structure, paving the way for organic and engaging knowledge sharing. Here’s why I believe Unconference 2023 is poised to redefine collaborations and ideas exchange: 🔹 **Flexible Agenda:** Unlike traditional conferences, the agenda here evolves in real-time, influenced by the participants. This approach fosters a highly collaborative environment, where the boundaries of knowledge are stretched and new solutions come to life. 🔹 **Diversity of Thought:** By giving attendees the power to shape discussions, Unconference attracts a diverse crowd from various industries and backgrounds. This melting pot of perspectives ensures that innovation thrives when seemingly disparate ideas collide. 🔹 **Empowerment and Engagement:** At the heart of Unconference is the opportunity for everyone to contribute. Those who might not have had a voice in more conventional settings are encouraged to share and build upon their ideas in real-time, taking active roles in their learning journeys. Looking ahead, I predict that this year’s Unconference will ignite a new standard for how events harness collective intelligence. As attendees shape the direction of the event, we can expect breakthroughs in problem-solving and the birth of innovative strategies that participants will carry back to their respective fields. 🎯 **Takeaways to Anticipate:** 1. Dynamic networking opportunities crafted by attendee-led sessions. 2. A platform for unveiling groundbreaking concepts shaped by progressive dialogue. 3. Real-time problem-solving techniques that transcend industry barriers. For anyone attending Unconference 2023, keep an eye on the Unconference Wiki for ongoing updates. Prepare to engage, inspire, and be transformed. Let’s make this an event where visions for the future aren’t just imagined, but initiated! Embrace the excitement. This is where change happens. 🚀 #Unconference2023 #Innovation #Collaboration #KnowledgeExchange

The economics around traditional conferences, sadly, mirror the most extractive and exclusive parts of our economy at large. As participants, we don’t often think about the impact of not paying speakers and contributors, failing to lift the voices of underrepresented speakers who bring nuance and intersectionality to the conversation, centering marketing and sponsors over participant value, and not intentionally creating equitably designed spaces that promote inclusion. To say it simply - I think there’s a better way to do it. I’ve been reading “Beloved Economics” and it’s fueled our design of the Call for Culture Impact Lab. You can boldly prioritize participant value, equitable-design, well-being, meaning, connection and resilience―alongside conventional metrics like quality and financial success. You can redistribute wealth by simply putting intentionally around the suppliers, speakers, and vendors you bring on board to make your event successful. The traditional conference model needs to be reimagined and normalized practices questioned… Meeting organizers need to do better for people… And I hope we at can be a small part of building better ❤️

I attended Day 1 of the Time To Rise Summit hosted by Tony Robbins yesterday. I am so appreciative for the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone (dancing, screaming, affirming, and more) and to feel welcomed by others as I do it. Yes, it's virtual, but seeing others on the screen doing things I'm doing just sets a person a little more at ease. 😅 Many takeaways from Day 1, but I zeroed in on this: 3 Mandates of Leadership: 1) See things as they are, but not worse than it seems 2) See it better than it is 3) Make it the way you see it I've experienced a lot of success in my career, but also faced many challenges. One example was when I took over leadership of an organization and the fill rates were dismal. Less than 70% of positions requested being staffed daily. I looked at this and instead of saying "well, this is just the standard" I saw it as it was and then saw it better than it is, imagine if we filled 90%+ of these positions daily. I told myself, I will make it the way I see it. I collaborated with the team, challenged them, identified the factors that impacted our fill rates. We implemented changes * Targeted hiring, where are our fill rates the lowest, let's prioritize staffing these areas * Staggered shifts to have the ability to action late afternoon / early evening last minute requests * Training additional team members to support the system we used to fill roles, as they say "many hands make light work" * And more... I'm proud to say we were averaging over 90% fill rates within 4 months and maintained this for the duration of my tenure there. (And customer satisfaction scores over 92%!) I refused to accept the current state, I envisioned it better than it was, and then worked with my team to make it the way I saw it. I look forward to putting these mandates of leadership into my next role! And sharing my takeaways from Day 2 of the summit soon. 😄
