But there is still a long way to go, 57% of women still declare, they don’t feel safe in Festive Spaces. On another angle, in a recent survey in the UK, 36% of respondents claimed accessibility in pubs and bars was average. Could we do better? Oh great, another straight leader asking you to host the pride event because you're the openly gay person on the team. They are all sorts of interested in recruiting you to do this. They say all of the supportive things to you. You want to do this because you care, but it's a huge use of your energy. They also have no vision for what they want this to be. It feels a little like they want to check the box. Your spidey senses are up. Ultimately, you say yes because you do enjoy this type of work. And within three days, no one seems to want to support you. It's not that they want you to fail, but they expect you to do it because you're the gay one. There isn't true buy-in from the top. That's clear. But, you said yes, so you still plan and execute a killer event. And to your credit, the PRIDE ERG loved it. It doesn't have to go like this. Queer employees: You can set boundaries. Sometimes saying no will spark the conversation that can truly support a culture shift. Don't allow yourself to be another box checked. You are more than that. Leaders: If you're not engaged with your DEI work, you're probably causing more harm. This is complex work -- I'm not going to say it's easy. You (and me) will get it wrong. But living in humanity and allowing us all to be a part of this work is where the transformation exists. Need support for your PRIDE Month festivities? Starting the Week with an important Reminder: Embracing Diversity Comes with Obligations I’ve seen a lot of people eager to parade the colourful tapestries of our diverse communities. It’s heartwarming to see everyone enjoying the diverse sources of food, culture, and traditions. But here’s a reality check: Diversity isn’t just about photo ops and hashtags. Embracing multiculturalism comes with real responsibilities. It means standing by our communities, respecting our values, and honouring the obligations that come with embracing our diversity. So, next time you join the parade, eat our food or want ‘representation’ in your group, remember that true diversity demands more than a momentary feeling that you have done the right thing. 🌈 Celebrating Pride Month! One of my favourite times on LinkedIn 🌈 I love seeing what organisations are doing to recognise and support the LGBTQI+ community, to reflect on the progress we’ve made, and to recognize the work that still needs to be done. Diversity, equity and inclusion are not just buzzwords but essential ingredients for a thriving workplace. If you’re an ally like me and don’t know how to get involved, I would suggest starting with just x3 things: 1.     Take the time to learn stuff: Understanding the history and struggles of the LGBTQI+ community is crucial. Learn by googling or inviting your colleagues and friends to share. 2.     Support: Encourage open conversations and offer support. Even just say, happy Pride month! 3.     Celebrate: Whether its participating in Pride events, wearing a badge or lanyard, showcasing LGBTIQI+ stories or turning up to that morning tea – your visibility and action counts. And do it authentically. I love to see organisations celebrate love, diversity, and the diverse spectrum of human experience and may it continue beyond June always! 🏳️🌈❤️

How does The LSM Club approach diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace? In light of Diversity Month, being in April, we consider ourselves a very inclusive community of gals. Our workplace is subject to creativity, not who we are ethnically. We welcome our staff from whatever background and for who they are on the inside, not on the outside. 🙌 On the events side of things, we ensure that our events are inclusive of every individual's preferences in what they like to do and if there are any discrepancies, there is always an opportunity to voice out our concerns and have those concerns dealt with promptly.
