Recently, I was challenged by someone on why we celebrate International Women's Day in Australia and in the moment I wasn’t sure how to respond. I have thought a lot about it since - here is what I wish I had said. The experiences of women vary widely across the globe. While some may argue that women in Australia enjoy favorable conditions, this isn't the reality in many parts of the world. In over 40% of countries, women face systematic denial of education, healthcare, freedom, and basic rights. Even in Australia, we must confront uncomfortable truths. One in three women will experience sexual violence in her lifetime. Women are over eight times more likely to suffer from family violence, with over 80% of family violence deaths being women. The gender pay gap persists, and women hold less than 10% of board positions in major Australian companies. Additionally, they constitute less than a third of our parliament, with recent governments lacking female representation in Cabinet. Women shoulder the bulk of domestic duties and mental load in Australian households. They can face challenges in accessing healthcare and bear the responsibility of caring for elderly or disabled family members. Industries dominated by women pay 28% less on average. So, when asked about celebrating this day, we can acknowledge how far we've come while recognizing the distance still ahead. The day is a tribute to the resilience of women who have faced marginalization, violence, and discrimination. It's a celebration of hope for a better future where every woman finds her voice and opportunities.

I'm delighted to launch our theme for the Status of Young Women in Scotland 2024-25: Young women's human rights in Scotland. Across Scotland, young women and girls are struggling to have their basic human rights realised due to poor access to healthcare, precarious employment, the prevalence and persistence of gender-based violence, and the ongoing climate crisis. We know how embedded and integral human rights are to the issues that affect young women’s lives in Scotland, like the cost-of-living crisis, gender-based violence, and getting the right support at the right time. When deciding on the theme of SYWS 24-25, the young women involved in our movement told us that they want a better understanding of their own human rights, and how they might access high-quality, evidence-based information when they feel their rights may have been breached, violated, or ignored. If you are a young woman aged 16 to 30, we want to hear from you! Read more and fill in our survey here: https://lnkd.in/eBmh_4rb #genderequality #genderjustice #womensrights #humanrightsbill

Ahead of the General Election, AG Comms joins Centenary Action, Fawcett Society & over 120 women’s organisations in the largest ever coalition of organisations representing the interests of women and girls. Read our joint letter here: https://bit.ly/4egaENn Women and girls represent over half of the population and still our voices are not heard, our quality of life is not prioritised and our experiences are often dismissed. We must amplify women's voices and support their inclusion in the political process to: - increase women's representation in politics and public life - end violence against women and girls - increase economic equality - improve women's health - ensure foreign policy includes women's leadership and addresses international women's aid #SheVotes24

As a female entrepreneur and a staunch defender of women’s rights, I am dedicated to empowering fellow female entrepreneurs who juggle the dual roles of business leaders and caregivers. Despite women increasingly taking on primary caregiving roles while spearheading new business ventures, the lack of sufficient childcare and governmental support remains a major hurdle. My commitment to challenging these systemic obstacles has led me to make a significant life decision: I relocated from the US to France for the next school year to leverage their free childcare system. This move wasn't just a personal choice but a strategic step to showcase the drastic measures needed to support myself and other women entrepreneurs effectively. 📚 I'm currently writing a book that dissects capitalist culture’s adverse impacts on women. I advocate for societal reforms that recognize and support women’s multifaceted roles. The core of my argument is clear: society loses when it fails to acknowledge women as full participants. 🔊 To journalists and media professionals: I want to share my insights and drive meaningful conversations around equity in entrepreneurship and women's rights. My journey reflects broader narratives that many women experience and these stories must be brought to light. Let's connect and make strides towards a more inclusive and supportive framework for all entrepreneurs. #Entrepreneurship #WomensRights #ChildcareSupport #Equity #BusinessLeaders 👉 Feel free to reach out for interviews or discussions! #Advocacy #FemaleEntrepreneurs #SocialChange

So many of our 'helping' professions are disempowering - making assumptions about what you want and leading you to an outcome. It's not helpful or healthy in the long term. Client centered services are essential. We work had to make it central to our mission at Elizabeth Morgan House. #traumainformed #selfdetermination
When we say we Walk Beside Women, we are talking about not leading but having them lead. It's why specialty Aboriginal family violence services are so important. Our women are the heart of our community and we respect them as unique knowledge holders with the capacity to self-govern through culture, autonomy, decolonisation and self-determination. Women face a number of barriers when it comes to running for office at all levels of government. That's why WPLN is building a support system for women across the country who want to make a difference in their communities. We believe that the public policies that impact everyday life should be created with a diversity of voices at the table. Want to learn more about WPLN's efforts to empower women to lead? As we celebrate our Independence Day, it's vital to recognize that true freedom remains elusive for many women who still struggle for safety and equality. Despite our progress, many women in our nation still grapple with the harsh realities of safety concerns. This day serves as a poignant reminder that true independence remains a distant dream for many. Their courage and resilience inspire us to strive for a nation where every woman can walk freely and confidently. Let’s pledge to support initiatives that empower women, advocate for their rights, and ensure their voices are heard. By fostering a culture of respect, equality, and safety, we can transform the dream of independence into a reality for every woman. Together, let’s build a future where independence is a shared celebration, and every individual, regardless of gender, experiences the true essence of freedom. #IndependenceDay #EmpowerWomen #EqualityForAll #TogetherWeRise
