Diversity and inclusion are not simply "buzzwords." It is imperative that historically and systematically marginalized groups of people are active participants in community development and housing solutions. March is Women's History Month, and this article highlights a few women in New York who created change. Feminist Development Practitioner, learning and facilitation specialist,Gender equity and Social Inclusion Expert, Community Resilience building facilitator
Bringing women together, creating safe spaces for interaction and communication is what I do.The brilliance that lies in women is often an untapped resource that communities are missing out on.The Indigenous knowledge that exists in communities, the sense of Ubuntu that is promoted yet undocumented is beyond amazing. This picture was taken in Odzi,Mutare at a community engagement meeting that transformed the narrative for me and for women in transformative community development. We continue to push,we continue to strive,we continue to speak out and speak up. One of the key learnings for me on a personal level was a deepened appreciation of the importance of a safe space for dialogue. When communities feel safe and heard, when they feel that they are part of the process, the dialogue is enriching and fulfilling. The dialogue is neither mine or theirs,it becomes ours,it creates webs of communication, webs of participation and webs of continuous learning. #activelistening #activeparticipation #womenvoices #transformationalcommunitydevelopmet

How amazing this course is for any women parent carers. Tailored specifically to the reality of being a parent carer.
Experienced Enterprise Consultant I Director at Carers at Work CIC I Founder of Carer Mums in Business | Board Member MDUK
Do you work with economically inactive women, and more specifically women parent carers? Then you might want to signpost them to this new programme that I'll be delivering on behalf of the @NI Rural Women's Network in partnership with Women Breaking Barriers Northern Ireland. In this laid back programme that has a focus on community building, shared experiences and support, I will help parent carers to rediscover their sense of identity, create goals that feel good & achievable, develop plans that are actually workable around the busy lives of parent carers and help to build their confidence. If you know someone who would like to take part, you can email Ciara at ciara@nirwn.org to check eligibility and book their space.

When you invest in women, you change generations. Meet Aurora, my beloved mother, who defied the odds. She was able to raise us when she was given the chance to become a public school teacher. I became a passionate international development practitioner working to empower communities around the world, and my sister became a social entrepreneur engaged in community development. Her story is a powerful reminder of the ripple effect of investing in women. When we empower women, we not only unlock their potential but also pave the way for a brighter future for their families and communities. #investinwomen #internationalwomensday2024

For me, authenticity is not just a buzzword; it's the cornerstone of connection and empowerment. When I share my own journey, I do so with the belief that it can serve as a beacon of hope for others who may be navigating similar paths. "I've been there, I made it, and so can you" is more than just a mantra—it's a testament to the resilience and strength that lies within each of us. At Youth Empowerment, we embrace this ethos wholeheartedly. We understand that real change comes from real stories, from individuals who have faced adversity head-on and emerged stronger on the other side. That's why we're committed to fostering an environment where everyone's voice is heard, and everyone's experiences are valued. Through our programs, initiatives, and community outreach efforts, we aim to uplift and support women from all walks of life. Whether it's providing mentorship, offering resources, or simply lending a listening ear, we're here to ensure that every woman feels empowered to pursue her dreams and live life on her own terms. Together, we stand in solidarity with women everywhere, celebrating their achievements, honoring their struggles, and amplifying their voices. Because when we lift each other up, there's no limit to what we can accomplish.

CEO | Strategy Consultant | Systemic Leadership Development & Executive Coach | DEI Expert | All Team Retreat Facilitator | Podcast Host
As I ease back into sharing here, I continue to think about the power of #connection and #community and how important it is to take a moment to celebrate each other's achievements. So many of our battles as women and women leaders feel hard won and it becomes important and empowering to find moments to celebrate our wins. Something I’m very proud and excited about is that Shirley McAlpine & Associates has been selected as a semi-finalist for the 2024 Job Creators Quest grant! This grant is an initiative to launch Founders First CDC Community Development Corporation’s support for small businesses from diverse backgrounds to scale and impact the ecosystem. (https://lnkd.in/gxPE_nUX) I’m so grateful to my team, George Hurvitt, MBA, Seema N. Patel, and Joyce Ferris for helping me express and represent the powerful work we do and we’re crossing our fingers about what comes next. I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT SOMETHING YOU'RE PROUD OF ACCOMPLISHING RECENTLY IN THE COMMENTS. Please share! #Celebration #Community #Support #jobcreation #communitydevelopment #smallbusiness #womensempowerment #womeninbusiness #womenfounders

Community is essential. We thrive when we have friends and allies. Looking for such a community? Consider joining Women in Data: https://lnkd.in/eN_htbcD But first, let me share some tips to maximize your experience: Do: ✅ Introduce yourself. ✅ Share helpful resources. ✅ Encourage fellow members. ✅ Lead or initiate projects. Don’t: 🚫 Expect others to only serve your needs. 🚫 Take more than you contribute. 🚫 Remain silent; your participation matters. Remember, the value of a community is reciprocal – what you contribute enriches both you and others. My experience confirms it: expect a 110% return on your investment in community involvement.

Cooperatives, along with employee ownership and other 'beyond profit' structures, are at the heart of the Restoration of our corporate world. Imagine even turning the corporate structure of every country into an employee owned co-operative. Now that's some divine thinking! #weareenough #thereisenough #comeontherestoration
“Scotland has a rich tradition of radical women agitating for social change: equal rights, votes for women. But the history is in danger of getting lost” says media co-op’s Vilte Vaitkute. “It’s been a real honour and huge fun for media co-op to collaborate with local women activists, to rescue this inspiring history of the co-op movement, and put it on screen. Being nominated for this award is the icing on the cake. We’re asking everyone we know to watch and vote, vote, vote.” Please vote for our 2-minute film on women's rights and co-operative history https://lnkd.in/eyXfqsM3 Engender Scotland Close the Gap Zero Tolerance Scotland Cooperatives UK Paisley Museum & Art Gallery OneRen SCVO (Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations) National Library of Scotland Scotmid Co-operative Refuge
