Last Thursday, I had the privilege of attending a conference titled "Catalytic Arene-Norbornene Annulation (CANAL): An Empowering Chemistry to Hydrocarbon Ladder Materials", presented by Prof. Yan Xia from the Department of Chemistry, Stanford University, Stanford, CA, USA. It was an exceptionally enriching experience to delve into the advances in catalytic arene-norbornene annulation chemistry and its application in the synthesis of hydrocarbon ladder materials. The depth and potential impact of this research open new frontiers in the field of materials chemistry. Additionally, it was my first encounter with the term CANAL, further expanding my understanding of this innovative field. I extend my gratitude to Prof. Yan Xia for sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm. I am delighted to share our recently published research article entitled "Constructing B─N─P Bonds in Ultrathin Holey g-C3N4 for Regulating the Local Chemical Environment in Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction to CO". The designed P–N–B triad was found to promote exciton dissociation, lower the activation barrier for reduction of CO2 by stabilizing the *COOH reaction intermediate, and altering the rate-determining step. * Research Alert * COEMinerals researcher/PhD student Thao NGUYEN's second paper, co-authored with Dr Ngoc N. Nguyen and Professor Anh Nguyen, has been published in the in the Journal of Molecular Liquids: https://lnkd.in/gkCm-Gz9 (a journal focused on Physical and Theoretical Chemistry). This fundamental research explores the role of interfacial #hydrogen bonding in foam drainage, laying the groundwork for understanding and controlling froth drainage for improving flotation performance during the mineral separation process. Thao shared an insight about her PhD journey with COEMinerals, "I began by understanding the fundamental science first, and then progressed to applications in flotation techniques," for mineral processing. My PhD journey led me into the world of electrochemistry with nearly no prior background (apart from maybe college chemistry). Along the journey, I met this book (gifted to me by an academic mentor- Ayokunle Omosebi ) and it was a real game changer. It was extremely helpful in understanding fuel cells and electrolyzers. Really grateful to the authors especially for its simplicity. Honorable mentions as well to the renowned “Electrochemical Methods” by A. J.
