Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chair Jessica Rosenworcel proposed relaunching a rural wireless broadband plan which would distribute up to $9 billion for 5G in underserved areas of the US. The 5G Fund for Rural America was unveiled by the FCC in 2019, but Rosenworcel stated the new plan would be based on more granular data from the agency’s improved national broadband coverage map, which indicates more than 14 million homes and businesses in rural areas lacking 5G coverage. In 2020, the FCC agreed rules to create the 5G Fund for Rural America by using a reverse auction process to allocate $9 billion from its Universal Service Fund, but decided to wait until the new broadband maps were created. is what people from Rural Area need right now .
We’re continuing to deliver and install masts in some of the most remote parts of Scotland as part of our Shared Rural Network commitment. We have delivered and built three new #4G masts on the remote Uist islands in the Outer Hebrides over three days, completely transforming connectivity in the area and removing partial not-spots. Alasdair Allan, the MSP for Na h-Eileanan an Lar, recently visited the new masts in Uist and welcomed our investment in the region. These coverage upgrades will provide residents, businesses and visitors with faster, more reliable connectivity. As part of the #SRN commitment, we have built more than any other operator. There's been some recent media coverage about New Zealand’s critical communications, including a few mentions of the Public Safety Network (PSN). Here’s a few quick facts about the PSN and the critical communications boost it will provide our emergency services... The Public Safety Network will be fully delivered in 2026 and is made up of three complementary solutions: 1. a new secure digital Land Mobile Radio network providing a single highly resilient network for the emergency services. It will have more than 400 transmission sites across the country and introduce new dual-band handheld portable radios and mobile radios (in vehicles) for responders 2. Cellular Services: PSN Roaming (now live) provides responders with access to both Spark and One NZ networks to extend coverage and provide a back-up network. PSN Priority (live late 2024) gives emergency responders network access ahead of all other users at times of network congestion or degradation, like in a large emergency or event so they can do their jobs and stay safe as they serve the community 3. Personal Alerting provides ongoing reliable paging capability for Fire and Emergency NZ and Hato Hone St John who use the service for communicating with their volunteer and specialist groups for responses in remote communities. BPPE / BArts student at the Australian National University. Project Support Officer at the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts.
Growing up in a rural area, with nothing but an ADSL connection standing between me and the world-wide web, I can remember how revolutionary it felt to finally connect to the NBN through a Sky Muster satellite. That was nearly 10 years ago. However now, more than ever, it is essential that we don't leave our rural communities behind in the digital revolution. In our modern age, telecommunications is a right, not a privilege. This survey is an essential step in a comprehensive process towards gaining insight into on the ground perspectives. It will help us identify what areas need to improve, and what more needs to be done to ensure that rural Australia doesn't become disconnected. ↓ Live in a rural area? Tell us about your experience. ↓
You can now have your say on the Regional Telecommunications Review through a quick online survey. Let us know your opinion on connectivity in regional, rural and remote parts of Australia. Survey closes 31 July 2024. Find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/gNvDBnXm #ConnectingAustralians #EmpoweringRegions #RTIRC2024 #Telecommunication
