Speaker | Author | BBC1 documentary presenter | Equal parenting, redefining masculinity & male allyship | Founder, MusicFootballFatherhood | Created #ParentingOutLoud for working dads
Love to see a law firm leading the way with Equal Parental Leave! Unlike children, parents are not born, they are made. And they are made through quality time spent bonding and learning how to look after their baby. Fathers can be just as good caregivers as mothers, when they are given the opportunity to learn how to do so. This is why Equal Parental Leave is so important. It allows dads to be equal caregivers from the start of their child's life. And this means they are more likely to work flexibly and Parent Out Loud when they return back to work. This is great for addressing the motherhood penalty and supporting the wellbeing of the whole family. Dads at Browne Jacobson will be entitled to 26 weeks paid leave. 13 weeks at full pay and 13 weeks at half pay. And to make the return to work that bit easier, the firm has opted to reduce targets for returnees to make life that bit easier. These policies are always driven by persistent individuals who present the business case. In this case, it's Anja Beriro (she/her) 👏🏽 Well done Browne Jacobson 👏🏽🎉 #EqualParentalLeave #ParentingOutLoud

Check out this BBC article by Maddy Savage on the impact of 50 years of Sweden’s parental leave policy. Dads taking leave is now the norm, with men increasingly seen as equal partners in caregiving. 💛 This shift has led to happier families and more balanced workplaces, and research shows that spending more time with children reduces the risk of postpartum depression in fathers. 😊 However, there’s still work to be done to achieve healthier employees. LEIA Health supports both mums and dads before, during, and after parental leave, and automates the process for companies, increasing awareness around parental leave. 🌟 Curious about the solution? Why is maternity pay so f*cked in the UK? Well Harriet M. and I have a few ideas, which is why we created Nugget Savings After spending a year obsessively trying to get to the bottom of the problem with parental leave in the UK By talking to parents, building a community, and years beyond that - experiencing the reality of maternity pay and witnessing friends crumble under the pressure We have come up with three key pillars for change 👉 Education 👉 Transparency 👉 Financial planning And the burden is split between 👉 Individuals/families 👉 Government 👉 Companies So I wanted to pitch this to our community. Had we got it right? Was our diagnosis accurate to their lived experience? I was genuinely gobsmacked by the response (particularly for a video over 2 minutes (!)) This pitch gained over 130,000 views 😱 with hundreds of comments providing invaluable insight And solidified that we are on the right path to transforming parental leave in the UK. Our audience back our mission. Do you? Let me know any feedback in the comments 👇
