Many people think dementia is just a normal part of aging – but it’s not. Lifestyle choices and behaviors can influence the chances of developing Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Many of these factors are linked to heart health and other chronic conditions, including high blood pressure, lack of physical activity, being overweight, diabetes, depression, smoking, hearing impairment, and excessive alcohol consumption. Most of these risk factors occur more often in American Indian and Alaska Native populations. It's never too late to learn how to break old habits and embrace new ones!
