An interesting debate. Prof Carlos Lopes raises key arguments. 1. There is an increasingly urgent call for structural transformation. This should take a holistic view. 2. All concepts work differently in different countries and different sectors (pardon the monotonous word-Different). So narratives and the language that shapes them are critical. 3. The need to institutionalise learning from failure by Government. 4. Whereas the ambition of #AfCFTA is to realise the #Agenda2063, this will be a big hurdle to meet as the Africa is divided, and are dealing with a determined partner (EU). Africa needs to be prepared and understand the contradictions between AfCFTA and her trade relationship with the EU. A very insightful dialogue!
It was a pleasure to welcome Carlos Lopes to our first Future Leaders Programme and the participants really valued his insights. DLD co-Director Jonathan Di John took some time out to talk to him about the value of cross-sectoral working, learning from failure and the progress of the ACFTA. You can see their conversation here.
