How Indorama Ventures is literally powering education. 💡📚 Just an hour away from Hua Hin lies Ban Nernpayom School, where for years, the absence of electricity has hindered their ability to engage with modern technology. This year, our non-profit charitable organization, the IVL Foundation, launched the Satellite Consolidation Strategy (SCS). This initiative is designed to consolidate and implement the knowledge and experience gained from various existing projects within individual communities. The Foundation made a significant impact by installing solar panels at Ban Nernpayom School, providing the necessary electricity to power their computers. This initiative has allowed the school to include computer classes in their curriculum for the first time, opening doors to new learning opportunities and fostering enthusiasm for education. Additionally, we revitalized a disused room by providing books and toys, many of which were generously contributed by our head office personnel. This newly equipped space now serves as a vibrant learning environment where students can explore and grow. We are committed to making a lasting societal impact through our efforts. Powerful Nivi! “What is the data-backed, scientific measure for a community no longer living in fear for their safety? How do we measure the cost-effectiveness and squeeze an ROI number out of trust, motivation, pride, love, and hope? And more importantly, why do donors keep forcing changemakers to?” Nivi
Came back from Skoll with a head full of ideas and a phonebook full of new friends. There are so many people and organizations doing important and necessary work. But I haven’t been able to shake one concern that came up often in my conversations in Oxford: The “money” doesn’t get it. In so many cases, there's a disconnect between the deep expertise of implementers and the ambitions of donors. Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies talked about the ambition of donors in her fireside chat with Don Gips: "Power of intent is very often there in the donor community, but many donors I know are usually very wealthy individuals who've done extremely well in the financial sector or the corporate sector and don't necessarily know how to effect social change here. They try, but they bring some of those ideas here which don't necessarily make sense. And it's a journey to reach a point where you finally understand that what works in markets may not work in civil society." Too many philanthropy fund managers and program officers struggle to bring their principles along on this journey. And it isn't only foundations facing this challenge - even Ajay Banga of the World Bank isn't immune from catering to funder will. When asked about the replenishment of IDA resources, he answered - "We are an instrument of the ambition of our donors. I can’t fabricate money out of thin air." For organizations like B2P that are moving to catalyze change in large, entrenched systems, it’s hard to quantify our impact into “hedge fund” terms. Natasha Joshi got me thinking: What is the data-backed, scientific measure for a community no longer living in fear for their safety? How do we measure the cost-effectiveness and squeeze an ROI number out of trust, motivation, pride, love, and hope? And more importantly, why do donors keep forcing changemakers to?

🌐 Technology is part of our lives. It is essential to our jobs and should be fundamental to every student’s education. Yet, today, 25% of Year 10 students do not have access to a laptop outside their classroom. This is wrong. A quality education needs access to the internet, software and social platforms. ▶️ As part of ACS’s social impact strategy, we are working with LiteHaus International to help close the digital divide. The goal is to equip 8,000 additional students with a donated digital device by 2027. If you have recently bought a new device, or if your company has purchased new devices for the new financial year, donate your old laptop or digital device to LiteHaus. Over 280 companies from ACS to Deloitte to Macquarie Bank have donated over 18,000 devices to LiteHaus, which has given access to tech to 150,000 students. What's more, every device you donate reduces e-waste. To date, LiteHaus has repurposed over 300 tonnes of e-waste, removing 620 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere. 🌍♻️ Donate your end-of-life digital devices to LiteHaus International and help students and the environment. 👉 Visit https://lnkd.in/g68gN3nP #DigitalDivide #Education #Ewaste #TechForGood #LiteHaus #ACS #SocialImpact

FORD - GIVEBACK & GROW (Data Upskilling the Next Generation) The only real security that a man will have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience, and ability” – Henry Ford As we navigate the complexities of the digital age, it's clear that data is the new currency. But are we equipping the next generation of workers with the skills they need to thrive in a data-driven world? The answer is, not yet. According to a recent report, 75% of organizations struggle to recruit and retain talent with the necessary data skills. This skills gap not only hinders business growth but also limits the potential of our future workforce. Employers want the right Soft and Hard skills. This example from Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and Ford Foundation hits the bullseye putting students through real-world experiences. #FordPhilanthropy #Innovation #DataDriven #DataSkills #Upskilling #FutureOfWork #NextGeneration #LifelongLearning #DataLiteracy #CareerDevelopment #BusinessGrowth

Advanced technologies are shaping a new landscape, and the challenge is real- bridging the skills gap between the emerging workforce and the demands of a new era of advanced manufacturing. Recent reports suggest the UK has a pressing need to address skills shortages in tech and industrial sectors. Earlier this year, Ford Philanthropy, the philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company, in partnership with GlobalGiving kicked off a £1 million community investment to supercharge Halewood and the wider Liverpool city region. This investment is all about expanding access to essential services and empowering young people for the future world of work. Take a look at the students at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC diving deep into project-based learning with Power BI, using real-world data from the plant. Their interactive data dashboards are a game-changer, making a head-start on the future of data-driven decision-making in the auto industry. Also, if you are a Knowsley or Halewood based non-profit in search of partnerships, Ford Philanthropy have just opened its grant applications. Take the leap to transform your communities: https://lnkd.in/eFsxy9Sw #skillgaps #liverpool #innovation #datascience #philanthropy #community #futureofwork #automotive

“When people speak of traveling to the past, they worry about radically changing the present by doing something small, but barely anyone in the present thinks they can radically change the future by doing something small.” — Barbara R. Nelson 1400 signs with positive messages have been provided to a total of 14 schools in South Africa, both public and private. This move to provide support for the mental and emotional well-being of young minds was made possible through a combined social investment of R273 000 from individuals and businesses as well as schools that could afford to fund the signage themselves. A single encouraging word to a child can be a pivotal moment for them and everyone to whom they are connected - and when we acknowledge that all of us are connected in some way through space and time, even to the child we don't know, we realise that a future-centric approach is necessary. Each school receives 10 outdoor signs for walls outside classrooms and 90 indoor signs for inside classrooms. Our outdoor signs last approximately 8 to 10 years when in direct sunlight and almost forever when in shade. We believe the ripple effect and social benefits will outlast the signs for generations to come. Schools are the backbone of our society, and children who have daily access to signs that promote self worth, work ethic, empathy, courage, integrity and grit will become the adults who uphold and strengthen our communities in the not-so-distant future. When you do the maths, you'll see that less than a once-off R25 per child exposed to positive messages for approximately 10 years has been spent. When you listen to the children in our YouTube videos you'll see it's a really low-cost, high-impact investment. This is how we, in partnership with donors, change the future. Contact us to find out how you, your alumni or your organisation can donate signs to a school of your choice. Did you know that for £6 you can provide books for one child for a year? and for £2.50 you can provide pens and pencils for one child for a year. However, children in most rural areas of Uganda lack scholastic materials and miss school, miss writing notes and exercises and can’t do revision because they do not have notes. As new school term opens, we are looking for support as many children as can in their education journey. If you could spare anything, please support our Gofundme campaign so that we can provide children in the rural areas of Uganda with scholastic materials. https://lnkd.in/dRJzCy4g No contribution is too small, and your sharing of the campaign is equally cherished. Let's come together to make a difference in the lives of these deserving children. With your support, we can empower orphaned and vulnerable children to succeed and thrive through education.
