Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2024 campaign that starts from today marks a significant milestone as Swachh Bharat Mission celebrates its tenth anniversary and the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign reaches its 7th year. The theme for SHS 2024, “Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskar Swachhata”, seeks to reignite the spirit of collective action and citizen participation in cleanliness efforts across India, underpinned by three key pillars emphasizing a ‘whole of society’ approach: 1. Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) – Shramdaan Activities: Focused on time-bound transformation of specific target units and overall cleanliness. 2. Swachhata Mein Jan Bhagidari – Public Participation, Awareness & Advocacy: Engaging citizens in cleanliness efforts through various participatory activities. 3. During a visit in November 2023, Alassan Primary Health Centre was found to be in a similarly dire condition, grappling with inadequate equipment and deteriorating infrastructure. 🏚️ Roof: Years of neglect and relentless rain have left the roof in disrepair, with no evidence of recent maintenance. 🪟 Windows: Cracked and stained, the windows allow dust motes to drift through the air. 🛏️ Hospital beds: Many beds appear abandoned, some missing sofas entirely, while those that have them are tattered and covered in dust. 🛠️ Ceiling panels: Hanging precariously, broken, and dangling, the ceiling panels highlight the urgent need for intervention. These conditions are not isolated; they reflect the widespread issues facing many PHCs in Sokoto’s remote areas. Health is true freedom

Hospital closure is one of the biggest challenges many rural communities face, leaving residents unable to access health care. Mackinac Straits Health System (MSHS) located in Michigan’s upper peninsula struggled to remain open and had limited physician resources. Instead of closing the doors of another rural hospital, MSHS forged a strategic partnership with The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, a federally recognized American Indian Tribe with around 50,000 members.
