Did you know the Waffle House Index is an actual informal metric used by FEMA to gauge storm severity. Waffle House’s operational status during extreme weather can be so reliable it has been a useful metric to determine the severity of a storm and the likely scale of assistance required for disaster recovery. If a nearby Waffle House shuts down, it’s a strong signal to prioritize safety immediately.

⭕ I'm sharing this to highlight the immense power of floodwaters when they’re on the move. While wildfires, earthquakes, tornadoes, and hurricanes cause immediate devastation, floods can continue to intensify, even days after the rain has stopped locally. Just because the rain ends at your doorstep doesn’t mean it has stopped upstream. When a flood watch is issued and you're in low-lying areas or near bridges, it's crucial to move to higher ground. ⭕ Emergency managers don’t issue evacuation alerts lightly—they're working to protect your life. These professionals dedicate their careers to managing emergencies, constantly studying and preparing for such situations. ⭕ So, when you receive an alert, PLEASE, follow the guidance of these experts. Whether it's an evacuation or an order to shelter in place, your life and your family’s safety depend on it. P.S. Also, don't be the bald guy either. River banks will give out. Get away from fast-moving water. #EmergencyManagement #EmergencyManagers #HurricaneHelene #NCDPS #CalOES #TDEM #FEPA #FEMA #DHS

It sounds like you're referring to a significant weather event, possibly a tropical storm or hurricane, as indicated by the weather map you shared. The map shows a system named "Oscar" with a pressure of 1007 hPa and wind speeds of 35 kt, which suggests it could be a tropical storm. Understanding and tracking such weather systems is crucial for disaster prevention and mitigation. By monitoring these systems, we can predict their paths and potential impacts, allowing for timely evacuations and preparations to minimize damage. If you have any specific questions about the weather system or need more information on how to interpret the data, feel free to ask!
