🌍☕ How to reduce your coffee’s carbon footprint Did you know that the carbon footprint of a single espresso (at 0.06 kg CO2e) is roughly equivalent to driving a car for 200 meters? You can help lower this by choosing sustainable coffee and making eco-friendly brewing choices for long-term sustainability. Here's how: 1️⃣ Choose energy-efficient coffee machines or manual methods (like French press). 2️⃣ Compost your coffee grounds. 3️⃣ Buy coffee from farms that use organic or agroforestry practices. 4️⃣ Roasters: Reduce packaging, use renewable energy, and ship more efficiently. Consumers play a vital role in climate action, but the coffee sector also shares a significant responsibility. At Swiss Sustainable Coffee Platform, we want to foster collaboration across the industry to deliver strong results, driving meaningful change and lasting impact. Let’s join forces for a more sustainable coffee value chain! #SustainableCoffee #ClimateAction #EcoFriendlyBrewing #Sustainability

Why is it that we discuss where our coffee comes from, how it was processed, but never where it ends up? In response to the pressing need for sustainable waste management in the coffee industry, Reground partnered up with Single O. Together, we’re transforming the way the industry views waste. This collaborative project was born from a shared recognition of the significant environmental impact of ground coffee in landfill and a collective desire to address it holistically. Sending ground coffee to landfill releases harmful emissions into the atmosphere, as the grounds don't have sufficient oxygen to break down naturally. Instead, we believe in turning waste into a resource that can be used by our community. By combining Reground's expertise in waste behaviour change and the circular economy with Single O dedication to sustainability and innovation, we’re leading the way for a new industry standard. By introducing product stewardship to the coffee industry, Reground and Single O are empowering roasters to take ownership of their waste and decrease their environmental footprint throughout the supply chain. #CircularCoffee #Partnership

We believe in sustainable solutions that benefit both nature and the community. As such, we enjoy working with companies that share this belief. Therefore, we are proud to announce that we have entered into a new partnership with De Laat Coffee. A family company that provides sustainable quality coffee. We will give their entirely plant-based jute coffee bags a second life by fully reusing them to protect our trees. Why is packing the root ball important: 🚛 When a tree is moved, for example from the nursery to a new location, the rootball can be vulnerable to damage. Wrapping the root ball in the coffee bags protects it from drying out, shock and other damage during transport. 💧 Packing the root ball also helps to retain moisture, which is crucial to keep the roots healthy. The chances of good regrowth are better when the root ball is wrapped in jute. 😎 Sunburn on trees is becoming increasingly common. This damages the bark cells and causes cracks in the trunk. It can weaken the tree and makes it more susceptible to diseases and pests. Wrapping the trunk protects trees from the blazing sun. De Laat Coffee buys 100% selected coffee beans that are qualified according to international coffee classifications. Their coffee roastery uses biomass and not gas. The coffee bean is cooled with air instead of water. All this ensures that optimum flavour is maintained and a lot of gas and water is saved. Solar panels provide all their power needs and what they have left over they feed back as green electricity. For both companies, this collaboration is a great example of integrating sustainability into daily processes. #sustainability #collaboration #partnership

Great read from Closed Loop Partners! There's about 5,000 commercial composting facilities in the US, and 90% of them don't accept food waste or packaging. This really limits access to composting systems as well as recovery of compostable resources. We need to increase the number of composters that accept food waste and compostable packaging.
