It’s Monday Friends, and here I am: an intellectually disabled man working on 3 large-scale commission paintings. Do I need help? Yes. Do I tire easily? Yes. Do I struggle to speak clearly? Yep. But am I disciplined? 💯 Am I up for learning new skills? 💯 Am I kind and supportive to others? Always. Oh, and am I successful? Ask my private and corporate collectors around the world. You might not think that hiring someone who is intellectually disabled is a smart choice. But I know that there are many individuals like me who want to work, can work with support and can enrich your corporate community. Think about giving it a try. Oh, and if you are looking for ART, give me a shout. But heads up, I am NOT working for less than minimum wage. Happy Week Friends!!! . #AllTogether #DownSyndrome #DownSyndromeAwareness #DisabilityEmployment #InclusiveLeadership #CorporateArt

Did you know that 3 in 5 women say that their caring role has blocked their career progress? You might think this doesn’t affect your company however around 6.5 million people in the UK are carers and 58% of these carers are women. So this week I have been updating my awareness packs that I sell to organisations to help them reinforce their employer brand and strengthen their reputation as a carer-friendly workplace. My awareness packs include resources for line managers as well as resources for working carers. You can tailor the packs to reflect your in-house branding as well as signpost to your relevant staff policies. Now's a good time to reach out to find out more because you have a golden opportunity coming up in Carers Week. This year the campaign runs from 10 to 16 June Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support. And believe me, so many carers simply don't identify as carers and therefore don't access support which means that they are in danger of burnout and overwhelm. Message me to find out more about my awareness packs.

Transformative Partner for Community Care: Co-Creating Innovative and Scalable Solutions for Better Care
"Who matters most: the person or the task?" Yesterday, I witnessed the following at a mall: A father, carrying his toddler, sternly told someone, "Nooo, that's a small hug. I want you to give mummy a big hug." I turned around and saw the 2-year-old boy giving his mummy as big a hug as he could. I do not know the context, but it started me thinking. Have I started a sentence with "No"? Have I ever turned a success or achievement into an opportunity to correct or do better? Have I looked out for what can go wrong or what else can be done amid an accomplishment? Have I confused a coaching moment with encouragement? When did we start focusing on the tasks instead of the people behind them? I reflected on times when, as care staff, we tell residents, "No, you must not walk. What if you fall?" or managers tell staff, "No, don't celebrate too soon; that's only one resident because we're lucky. I want us to do it for more residents." Instead of fixating on tasks and what could go wrong, let's shift our focus to the individuals. Let's celebrate the person who took a step, the child who gave a hug, and the staff who made a difference. Focusing on the person can foster an environment of encouragement and positivity. It's not about perfecting tasks but valuing and supporting the people behind them, their unique contributions and efforts. Let's give thanks in every hug, every step, and every achievement, and remember that the people, not just the tasks, truly matter. #CommunityCare #PersonCentredCare #dementia
