One of the things that helps my overall wellness is to sit outside with a cup of coffee before the kids wake up. I use that time to read, to write, and to reflect. It resets my energy and my outlook at a time when my mind is most open to being reset. It’s where I bring an intentional focus on gratitude. Most of the time that time is also accompanied by a cup of Nossa Familia Coffee. I had the opportunity to meet the founder of Nossa, Augusto Carneiro, several months ago. What stood out is his intentional focus on building community, one cup at a time. Augusto is building a company while he builds a community, which is quite a demanding balance. Yet what I admired the most was how he honors his own story, his own connection through the product. Community is not an end goal, it is a goal of everything. He seeks to build community through the farmers whom he sources product, through the baristas whom he employees, through the customers who come into a cafe, and through the communities they serve. And because of that, they can enable so much more, like the way the values within their product helps me step into my own values. It makes me think of the collective potential of each of us putting our values into what we do. Augusto, I admire you, what you are building, how you are building, and for whom you are building. I appreciate you for the incredible community you are building, one-by-one and then all of a sudden. #ThankfulThursday #Community #Values

Those of us who work, govern, volunteer or shop at a cooperative know the power co-ops have is enormous. It’s why many of us participate in Co-op life. And for many of us, the meaning of and experience of or by “power” goes far beyond the Co-op’s transformative model. This year, we invite you to Power in Cooperatives: Fruitful Conversations to Seed Transformation, a guided journey to dig deep into the idea of what power means to you as a cooperator—with other cooperators from your region. Together, we’ll explore how power operates within a model built to be principled, democratic and equitable, and how we as individuals and groups might approach power will be explored. The main goals of our day-long, DEI-centered conversation are: Gain a practical understanding of different types of power and how they show up in our work as cooperators Consider how we use our power and on whose behalf Reflect on the connection between power and accountability Leave feeling like we have new perspectives and can try the solutions-oriented conversations we practiced together. The new Co-op Cafe will be a valuable experience for folks from all areas of the Co-op: directors, managers, staff and community members, from all sectors of the cooperative landscape. It’s not often we get the opportunity to talk about power and all that comes with this concept in our lives as cooperators. Join us on August 24th in Sacramento, CA! 2 years ago, a flood rocked a small, rural community in Kentucky, leaving it reeling from the devastation... But guess what? They’re not just bouncing back; They’re leaping forward! 💪 Imagine this: Cooperative Extension in Breathett County starts following the Innovation Collective plan for creating a #FlourishingCommunity. What happens next? They start to engage with and plan a community and economic activation events series with groups like the local chamber and the beloved pizza place down the street. This new alliance becomes an engine of community as they begin to deploy our events and experiences model. What do you get? Magic! ✨ Their first fireside chat is not just about getting out of the house; it's about igniting the spirits of the community as they go on a journey toward community flourishing and resiliency. As they choose to show up for each other and do the work together to build a tomorrow they believe in. When we focus on human flourishing and bring everyone to the table, amazing things happen. They’re not just rebuilding; they’re reimagining what success means for them and how they can work together in new and novel ways. It's not just about living; it's about thriving together. When a community comes together with resilience, innovation, and a sprinkle of pizza, there's nothing they can't achieve! 🍕💫 #Resilience #CommunitySuccess #FlourishingTogether

In a world where digital interactions dominate, meaningful community connections are vital. Even pre-pandemic, we yearned for a sense of belonging. The past few years underscored our human need to connect. As an extrovert who loves community building, I've enjoyed organizing neighborhood events that bring people together. Seeing neighbors of all ages connecting fills my soul with warmth. It's clear that happiness is tied to community. Face-to-Face Interactions There's unmatched power in face-to-face interactions. In-person gatherings allow us to read emotions, share experiences, and create lasting memories. Reflecting on the past year, the joy on people's faces as they reunited in person was priceless. Real-life experiences are irreplaceable. Cultural Exchange Modern neighborhoods are vibrant mosaics of cultures. Embracing this diversity enriches us all. In my diverse neighborhood, we've celebrated various holidays and traditions, fostering inclusion. Watching neighbors from different backgrounds come together is truly rewarding. Safety and Unity Safety and unity are intertwined. In a close-knit community, we naturally look out for one another. I'll never forget when my greyhound escaped, and two neighbors recognized my dog and contacted me. Their quick actions ensured our beloved pet was safe. Knowing our neighbors helps us protect and support each other. Mental Well-being Loneliness and isolation are major challenges. Organizing book clubs, park markets, parades, and ice cream socials provides regular social interaction opportunities. Feeling part of a community is vital for mental health. I'll always cherish the moment a young girl at one of our events said, "We should name this park Celebration Park because this is where we have all our celebrations!" This little girl felt a deep sense of belonging and joy, a testament to the power of community. Fostering meaningful community connections enhances our lives. Let's continue building these connections, creating inclusive, safe, and joyful environments for all. Share your thoughts—let's celebrate the power of community together! #CommunityBuilding #FaceToFace #CulturalExchange #Safety #MentalWellBeing

“A family business is a shared journey of passion, legacy and unity.” – Unknown Some might call it the American dream. Coming to America, working hard, finding a niche, creating a life with drive and passion, starting a business and turning it into a family legacy. However, running a family business is not just a dream. It’s hours and hours of working even though the workday is over. It’s working holidays and weekends. It’s missing your own family events to achieve a goal for your family. It’s delaying your own gains in the name of growing a business that continues to thrive in changing environments. It’s love. It’s sweat. It’s tears. And, it’s resounding pride and joy. It’s your family. And just imagine doing it for 100 years! The Corropolese Family has done just that. From humble beginnings with a desire to make it in America, focused on quality products and making customers happy, this family business continues to thrive 5 generations later. Making tomato pie a staple at just about any event and putting the Philadelphia region on the map as the best around, Corropolese Bakery, also focuses on giving back and supporting its community. They understand that they’re only as strong as their community. This is what makes small family-owned businesses the cornerstone of our communities and economy. Lower Providence Living wants to wish a very happy 100th Anniversary to Corropolese Bakery!! We are honored to have you as a part of our community and our magazine. We wish you many more years of continued success. #lowerprovidenceliving #august2024 #community #BringingPeopleTogether #gettoknowyourneighbors #supportlocal #supportlocalbusinesses

Why should you take a walk with strangers? Because it's magical! ✨ Let me explain... In 2022, when I started working on Outerly, I wanted to meet people and learn about the main barriers to entry for outdoor recreation. So, I posted a group walk in DC on Meetup.com, and over 20 people showed up. None of them knew each other beforehand. None of them knew me (except one, thank you Caity!). But they all showed up to walk with strangers. It was absolutely magical to connect with people IRL and have conversations in fresh air. It gave me warm fuzzies I can't properly explain in words. I wanted to do it again and again. So I did. After hosting these dozens of times, what I realized is that the walking groups I participated in became unruly without curation. One time, I posted a walk and had 50 people show up with just me leading the charge. Another time, it was all men and me. Sometimes, they went perfectly well, but I found it overwhelming to socialize with 20+ people instead of being able to focus on just a few. That's where Outerly comes in! With our new Outings model, we're combining accessible city walks with small group matching to create this happenstance magic with hands-on curation. We have a goal of getting 100+ DC area strangers to join us for our first Outing on September 21, 2024. If you're in the area, come try it for yourself: https://lnkd.in/gYeizpsn If you aren't here, tag a friend who should know about what we're doing! ------- I'm Kay 👋🏼 I'm the founder of Outerly, a company that connects strangers for small group walk and talks in cities. Follow for more on loneliness, mental health, and the role of nature in urban communities. 🌿 #loneliness #mentalhealth #startups #
