🔋 Interested in Cyclic Carbonates and Solid State Batteries? This article is for you! Over the past fifty years, batteries have become essential, especially with the development of rechargeable lithium-based batteries, known for their high energy density and lightweight nature. Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in various applications. Cyclic carbonates like ethylene carbonate and propylene carbonate have been identified as suitable solvents for lithium-ion battery electrolytes, addressing the challenge of selecting appropriate electrolytes. Very interesting article by Iñigo Careaga Aja of CIC energiGUNE on the potential, alternatives and challenges of #RedoxFlowBatteries. 💡 The redox #FlowBattery market, although less well-known than conventional #lithium or solid-state #batteries, is gaining momentum as a robust and viable alternative in large-scale, long-term #EnergyStorage. 🚀 With projected growth at a compound annual growth rate of 19.9% through 2030, these batteries promise to transform both #renewable energy storage and #GridStability. ☀ This is because redox flow batteries are particularly appropriate for storing energy from #RenewableSources such as the sun and wind, which are intermittent in nature. 🔋 As with other #electrochemical storage technologies, when we talk about redox flow batteries we are not referring to a single type of battery. This alternative encompasses different approaches that use different materials as the basis for their development (#vanadium redox, organic #quinone compounds, #zinc and combinations of #hydrogen and bromine). 👉 Read here the complete article: https://lnkd.in/dQeavkgN

We have just released our updated view of the cost reduction potential of hydrogen electrolysers — and it’s much slower and smaller than all of our prior projections. It’s part of a broader trend taking place across the industry. The more we learn about hydrogen, the harder the realities turn out to be.
Electrolyzer costs will remain higher for longer than previously thought, thereby negatively impacting future green #hydrogen costs. So writes my colleague Xiaoting Wang in the most detailed analysis of electrolysis system costs BloombergNEF has ever published, and dare I say, probably the most comprehensive analysis of electrolysis system costs ever – Electrolysis System Cost Forecast 2050: Higher for Longer. Some of the key findings include: 1: #Electrolysis capex could fall by about one half from today to 2050 in #China, #Europe and the #US assuming continued government support and free trade. 2: This new 2050 capex forecast is significantly higher than what we anticipated in our 2022 analysis. 3: Strict #trade barriers could lower the cost reduction to just 28% in Western markets and limit the industry’s growth. 4: Not all components of an electrolysis system are likely to fall in cost at the same rate. While #electrolyzer stacks can get significantly cheaper, the costs of more established technologies like #transformers are unlikely to decline as rapidly. Which components will fall by how much? How do Chinese and Western electrolyzers compare? What do #electrolyzers and #solar modules have in common, what is different and why does it matter? How will efficiency and current density evolve? Is the future #alkaline, #PEM, or #AEM? Will electrolyzers be on- of off-grid? Why is $/kW not an accurate enough measure of electrolyzer costs, and which other unit is better? BNEF clients can see the answers to the above questions and more in the full 49-page report here: https://lnkd.in/evUV_DxH Reach out if you'd like to explore access to BNEF!

BNE with a much less optimistic take on future electrolyzer cost reductions (compared to previous upbeat outlooks). If so then it means slower green hydrogen uptake, and a relatively better run for blue hydrogen - with a consequentially less bright outlook for CO2 reductions.
