💫 INFRACHIP at the Kick-Off Meeting of DESIRE4EU! 🔹 On 20th September 2024, our colleague alain SYLVESTRE from FMNT presented the project to the DESIRE4EU consortium, which had the occasion to meet in Grenoble those days! 🔹 DESIRE4EU is a new European project focusing on DESIgning and REcycling sustainable Electronic boards for a EUropean circular economy. The INFRACHIP project, through the sharing of its equipment, and more particularly through its Sustain pillar, could advantageously address the concerns of DESIRE4EU researchers and develop new synergies between the partners of these 2 European projects. A presentation of INFRACHIP at the DESIRE4EU kick-off is the first step in setting up these future collaborations, we have no doubt! 🤝

🔬 Exploring Innovation at Blue City Rotterdam with Clear Rivers 🌱 In early June I had the opportunity of guiding the Clear Rivers team through the Blue City infrastructure, the highlight of which was visiting some of the most exciting spaces at BlueCity (010) Rotterdam—our state-of-the-art laboratories. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase how these labs are pushing the boundaries of sustainability and circularity. We explored our Fungi Lab, Biochemistry Lab, Microbiology Lab, and Fabrication Lab, where groundbreaking research and innovation are transforming waste into valuable resources and sustainable materials. Human history has been defined by the materials we've used - Stone Age, Copper Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Steel Age. We hope to now usher in the age of sustainable materials. At BlueCity (010), we explore the future of sustainability together—one lab at a time! 🌍💡 #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #BlueCityRotterdam #Innovation #EnvironmentalScience #ClearRivers #FutureOfBusiness #SustainableDevelopment

#merrychristmas from my side, from my just-finished project, and from our group. Diels-Alder self-healing materials can be engineered with diverse mechanical properties (a multi-material layer is observed; upon heating, the material with lower melting temperature becomes liquid and flows out). This property caters to various soft robotics applications and facilitates the creation of multi-material structures, such as a gripper. The gripper design involves utilizing different materials for the main body and the skin to meet specific functional requirements. Additional details, titled 'Variable Stiffness, Sensing, and Healing in FESTO's FinRay Gripper: An Industry-Driven Design,' will soon be published in the IEEE Robotics and Automation Magazine. "By evaluating project continuity, the scale of industry investments following project completion, and the proliferation of innovative biorefineries across Europe, it becomes clear that CBE JU has been essential in transitioning from initial project successes to widespread industrial application." There are many funding instruments, tools, initiatives - both at international and national level - out there. Measuring the success of each of them is not always obvious. As always, numbers don't lie. And there is a number of evidences demonstrating that Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) is achieving its objectives and is impacting on the European innovation landscape. The path for defossilising European economy is still long and complex. This independent study gives us even more motivation and recognition to accomplish the huge work is still left to do.
