In case you missed it, we were there📍 🌈 #AmsterdamPride2024! Marc Smulders and 46 #ING colleagues showed up and showed out under this year’s theme: Together! Our commitment to diversity, inclusion and belonging shinned as brightly as ever. Thanks to all participants representing ING, you've done us proud! 🧡 Read more below. #PrideMatters. Everyday. #DoYourThing ✨
Pride 2024 you were a blast, what an honor to do the production of the boat this year. Big shoes to fill after all those years done by Gerard van Amerongen, Peter Rombouts, Peter Noordzij and the late Dennis Diem. I couldn’t be more proud. We kept the entertainment value with our choreography, added live vocals by the wonderful finalist of the Voice of Holland Patricia, our mc and choreographer ivo chundro, DJ Joshua Walter, costumes by Janne Mooij and drag superstar Vanessa van Cartier as our connector of togetherness. For the first time we had an important message on our boat in line with the theme of Pride Amsterdam and our global Pride campaign: Together, also when the glitter wears off. Pride Matters. Everyday. Proud of all me colleagues, proud to be ING and special thanks to Kim L. for making this possible.

𝐈𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬?
In this example from my colleague Transformation Architect Dorothy Di Stefano it's literally about "moving as one".
𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐟 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐜?
As an audience, we would immediately notice.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬.
If part of your organisation is dancing to a different beat, customers will see. Detail errors can temporarily be forgiven, yet for a great performance, all parts of your company have to act as one.
𝐓𝐎 𝐀𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐄𝐕𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐃:
👉 𝐀 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐲
In spite of years of journey mapping, personas, and more, many organisations still lack a clear experience vision and framework. If your people don't really know the dance (or it's unremarkable), it's hard for them to deliver something unique.
👉 𝐀 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠
Like a great dance performance, the delivery of a unique customer experience requires continuous attention to every single detail. Every movement of the business. Your people will only develop this stamina if they actually ENJOY focusing on the customer and the work they do.
👉 𝐀𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐞𝐝
Even the best choreography will underwhelm if the stage, lighting and dancer's equipment aren't aligned to its delivery. Which means your people - also - need the tools, incentives, and working conditions necessary to deliver the expected experience.
𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫-𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬, 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬.
It's about giving your people the DIRECTION and DESIRE to deliver a great performance, and providing the ENVIRONMENT to help them excel.
If I looked at your experience as I would look at this group of dancers, would I be impressed? Or would I wince?
Think about it!

The 3 pillars of TIME: Past, Present, and Future.
The Past - You can't change it but you can definitely learn from it.
The Present - You can transform your intentions into Action to influence it.
The Future - You can shape it with the present to expect a good to happen.
These 3 pillars are interconnected, thus embracing the RHYTHM of life!
Now, in this dance of time, what can we do?🤔

📝 Different communication strategies - While somes luxury Maisons focus on fuzzy campaign and/or the need to showcase regularly their positioning or brand-new initiatives, others like CELINE count on post scarcity (check LinkedIn). No strategy is nailed when drafted; the implementation is all and it depends on their image. No size fits all

🌟 Moving Together: Uncovering the Teamwork Secrets Behind Synchronised Dancing 🌟
Ever observed a group moving in perfect harmony and wondered about their secret? It turns out, the essence of their teamwork holds invaluable insights for enhancing our work environment, fostering smoother and more interconnected relationships.
Mirror Neuron Activation
The magic begins in our brains with mirror neurons. These neurons light up not only when we perform an action but also when we observe others doing the same. In the realm of synchronised dancing, this phenomenon aids dancers in anticipating and aligning with each other's moves, promoting better coordination and a deeper sense of empathy.
Motor Coordination and Planning
Our brain's motor regions, including the premotor cortex, primary motor cortex, and cerebellum, collaborate to orchestrate, initiate, and refine our movements. This synergy ensures that dancers remain in sync not just with the music but with their fellow performers as well.
Audiovisual Integration
Achieving synchrony demands the seamless integration of sound and sight. The superior temporal sulcus and occipital areas of our brains play a pivotal role in merging auditory (music) and visual (fellow dancers' movements) cues, maintaining the dance's rhythm and harmony.
Reward and Pleasure
The joy of synchronised dancing stems from the activation of our brain's reward pathways, triggering the release of endorphins and dopamine. This leads to a surge of pleasure, fostering a sense of social connection and bonding—a process deeply rooted in the nucleus accumbens and ventral tegmental area.
Social Bonding and Empathy
Dancing in unison not only elevates our mood but also strengthens the bonds of social connectedness and empathy among participants. This is possibly due to the oxytocin system, known as the "love hormone" system, which enhances feelings of trust and togetherness.
Executive Function and Memory
Complex, synchronised dance moves require sharp executive functions such as attention, working memory, and inhibition control, all managed by the prefrontal cortex. This mental gymnastics keeps dancers focused and in harmony.
Emotional Expression and Recognition
Group dancing is a powerful medium for expressing and recognising emotions through movement. The limbic system, including the amygdala and hippocampus, plays a critical role in these emotional exchanges.
As you step into your next team meeting, observe and listen. Are there patterns that mirror the synchrony found in dance? What insights can this offer for enhancing teamwork in your workplace?
