Ingenuity Studios delivered 212 shots on “The Sympathizer” from HBO Max. The work included digital painting, CG set extensions and builds, FX explosions, and full face-replacements for the myriad of characters played by Robert Downey Jr. The series was created by Park Chan-Wook and based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen. “The Sympathizer’ was an exciting project to tackle - the distinctive period and setting of the series presented a compelling creative challenge for us. Our wide variety of work, including environment extensions, digi-double and creature additions, pyro and fluid simulations, and compositing FX was a real opportunity for us to dip into every corner of the VFX palette and showcase our team’s diverse talents.
