D E S I G N F O R A L L is a vital part of current and future construction or renovation projects! Facilities that are subject to law must be designed accordingly to ensure accessibility for all people. As this is a complex area, it is important for building professionals, private individuals and local authorities to be informed and instructed accordingly. BELVEDERE Architecture has already undergone the training (adapth.lu - official partner of the OAI) and is working with this newly acquired expertise on several projects. We are authorised to act as a technical inspector for accessibility in accordance with the conditions of Article 9 of the law of 7 January 2022 on the accessibility of public places, public roads and apartment buildings. #designforall #accessibilité #accessibility #barrierefrei #Konformität #conformity #conformité #architecture #construction #renovation #luxembourg

"Many architects design buildings as if they were self-portraits." Architecture is a public art. Even though you're designing it for a particular clientele, everyone that passes by gets to experience it. And that's the reason why as architects, we must aim to create quality work and be aware of our responsibility to the community and the environment. The designs we create can't simply reflect our personal preferences—likes, dislikes, eccentricities, attractions, tastes, etc. A good architect has to let go of the need to showcase their own individual stamp. Of course, you must bring something unique to the table, but never at the cost of disrupting the harmony of the existing community and culture. All you have to do is add to the recipe, and not reinvent it completely. Let London be London. Adding a building cherry-picked in there from Dubai? That's a no-go. #architecture #writing #architecturalwriting #London #classicalarchitecture #architects #design #architecturedesign

Overcoming Obstacles: International Architects & Interior Designers in Canada. Here are some common challenges you might face due to outdated and biased practices, drawn from my own experience as an outsider architect in Canada. (I hope this helps you, as it has helped me to write it down). 1. "Local Experience" Requirement: Overcoming the challenge of this often unnecessary criterion can be tough. Your skills and qualifications should speak louder than arbitrary notions of local experience. 2. Network Hesitancy: Building professional networks can be challenging when faced with hesitancy. Overcoming this obstacle requires persistence and showcasing your expertise through various platforms. 3. Lack of Trust in Foreigners' Abilities: Combatting preconceived notions about foreign professionals can be daunting. Prove your capabilities through exceptional work and dedication, gradually earning the trust of clients and peers. 4. Origin Biases: Confronting biases based on your country of origin is unfortunately a reality for many international architects and designers. Focus on highlighting your unique perspective and diverse skill set to challenge these stereotypes. 5. Being Underestimated: Don't let others' perceptions limit your potential. Use every opportunity to demonstrate your talent, innovation, and commitment to excellence, proving that your contributions are invaluable regardless of background. 6. Working in Between Metric and Imperial Systems: Maneuvering between metric and imperial systems can pose challenges in design and construction. Adaptability and proficiency in both systems showcase your versatility and competence in diverse environments. Look for visual and common life shortcuts everywhere to help yourself understand and navigate in both measuring realms. ____ Remember, while these obstacles may seem daunting, they are not unconquerable. Stay resilient, showcase your talents, and continue to push boundaries. Your unique perspective and expertise have the power to reshape industries and inspire change!! #InternationalDesigners #Architects #interiordesigners #BreakingBarriers #DiversePerspectives #Resilience #Canada #Toronto #challengingenvironment

Join us in extending a big congratulations to Ryan, LM-ESP team member and Architect, on officially becoming a Certified Passive House Designer! Ryan is the first LM-ESP team member to earn this internationally recognized designation. Our office is growing our skillsets to address Passive House goals, both in our design work and on our team, expanding our commitment to sustainable design leadership. “Passive House is the only internationally recognized, performance-based energy standard in construction.” “Passive House Canada advocates for the Passive House high performance building standard that sharply reduces GHG emissions and provides resilient structures that can withstand extreme weather related to climate change.” Ryan recently attended the 2024 Passive House Canada Conference in Victoria, BC. (Photos 3-6), having the chance to tour two Passive House Certified Student Residences at the University of Victoria. Attending seminars, such as “Enabling Passive House Adoption in Cold Climates,” Ryan returned with fascinating insights to share with our team. A concept that stood out was “the building as a living entity.” He described it as a symbiotic relationship working with the building in harmony with the natural environment. There is much more to come as we further explore the principles, partnerships and possibilities linked to Passive House. RIBA National Award winners Excited to see that the Elizabeth Line was one of the winners at the recent RIBA National Awards, along with Paddington Station. Evaluation of sustainability criteria is a key element of the awards so really proud to have contributed as Sustainability Manager within the integrated client team at Crossrail. The common architectural elements were chosen based on a need for hard wearing and low maintenance materials whilst selecting low environmental impact materials which was a challenge. Throughout, our approach sought to lower operational energy use through specification of LED lighting and control systems, low energy lifts and escalators and simplification of ventilation ducting to reduce materials and fan energy. Even the full height platform doors provide a valuable function not only in safety, but keeping braking and reject heat from the air conditioning trackside and not spilling onto the platforms. We also reduced the embodied carbon of our concrete and ensured the responsible procurement of our steel. The project also received plaudits for its approach to ethical sourcing through a fantastic collaborative approach with our supply chain. Three of the six central stations achieved BREEAM Excellent and the others Very Good. We were also awarded an innovation credit for integrating the BREEAM criteria into the asset information management system to inform future operator and maintainers. https://lnkd.in/erCnsewQ
