If you've wanted to try out Google's #NotebookLM AI-podcast feature, I've saved you the trouble. 😏 This feature is truly incredible, but it only takes 2-3 'episodes' to realize that the format is always the same. It's like the two podcast hosts took an improv class where they learned the "Yes, and…" rule, but added infinite optimism. (Kinda like these threads people write about a BREAKTHROUGH new product that will BLOW your MIND 🤯 ) It's amazing what nuance the system will pull out of a PDF—or a large collection of sources—but disconcerting how one host will play the naïve lay-person asking questions one minute and then become the expert explaining technical details the next. I can see a lot of potential if they just add in a bit of inter-episode variety—different hosts, fewer catchphrases, clichés, and slang, and more consistent host-guest positioning. Fun to play with and exciting to imagine what comes next.

🎯 𝗧𝗜𝗣: Keep the active speaker (or the best reaction!) in-frame for all of your podcast clips with the new and improved Speaker Focus. 51% of viewers say that they prefer video podcasts to audio only specifically to see the faces and reactions of the hosts and guests. If you’re not keeping the active speaker in frame, your clips will lose that draw. But manually cutting back and forth between two or more speakers is time consuming and tedious. Fortunately, it’s also unnecessary. Instead, use Speaker Focus, a free tool inside Kapwing's Repurpose Studio, to automatically detect who’s talking and center them in frame, no matter what aspect ratio your new clip is.
