Our profession has struggled overcoming the nuances of our professional title, athletic trainer (we don’t train athletes). Sometimes popular opinion isn’t the best long-term option. In 1999, Paul Grace, then Executive Director of the Board of Certification, wrote an article describing the history of AT certification titled “Milestones in Athletic Trainer Certification” (link in comments). Below is a screenshot of a passage on p. 287. According to Paul, the title “athletic trainer” won by 15 votes. Would our situation be any different if we would have looked forward in our thinking? #athletictraining
