I asked the FifthWall Solutions team to put on plain white tee's this morning to inject a little fun into our remote team's routine. Here's what happened: I was envisioning a virtual blank canvas – maybe we'll doodle with markers, try some digital tie-dye... you know, harmless team-building fun. I fire up the Teams meeting, feeling pretty good about my creativity. And then the music started: the unmistakable opening chords of "Hey There Delilah" are blasting through my speakers. Andy Runyan singing lead vocals. Wilson Henry on the guitar. Oscar Ramirez, Jr. playing a djembe. Jaron Snavely, M.A. doing backup dancing. Travis Kroger refused to participate because, quote: "I only wear black because I'm Batman." Turns out, my simple request to "put on plain white tees" was all the inspiration the team needed to turn our virtual meeting into a full-blown Plain White T's jam session. 🤦♂️ Talk about a communication breakdown! The WAY we communicate is apparently just as important as making sure we DO communicate. But honestly? It was also the most fun, spontaneous, and team-bonding Teams meeting we've ever had. Last week was our bi-annual Lightwire Week, where (nearly) everyone comes in to Head Office here in the 'Tron and hangs out for the week, exchanging ideas, strategizing, road-mapping, and just having a good ole' yarn.👌 This time around, the focus was around learning our individual interaction styles so we can better communicate and understand one another, especially when dealing with different teams/departments within the business.💡 Now, I'm personally a big fan of stuff like this - you know, the "love language" sort of thing.
