Meaningful Step Forward in Strategic Technologies for Europe Yesterday, European Parliament has approved the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP). STEP’s main goal is to enhance EU's sovereignty and long-term competitiveness in key technologies. This platform aims to attract investments in digital, deep and clean technologies and biotech sectors by setting financial incentives and measures to facilitate project financing. STEP uses funding from established EU programs. This includes cohesion policy funds, InvestEU, Horizon Europe, the European Defence Fund, the Innovation Fund, and the Recovery and Resilience Facility. Within the framework of STEP, projects that actively contribute to achieving STEP objectives will receive a Sovereignty Seal. This distinctive label serves as a mark of quality, facilitating their eligibility for EU funding and enhancing their appeal to potential investors. By fostering collaboration and providing financial support, STEP will drive Europe towards a more innovative, competitive, and sovereign future. #STEP #ChristianEhler #StrategicTech #KeyTechnologies #EU

⚙️ The New European Innovation Agenda (NEIA) recognises the pivotal role of regulatory frameworks in fostering or hindering the development and adoption of emerging #technologies. 🤝 Partnering with 4FRONT (lead) and European Future Innovation System (EFIS) Centre, the #VisionaryAnalytics team is working on a project for the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) titled “Study on Innovative Practices in Legislation around Emerging Tech”. The study will explore how the regulatory environment in EU and Horizon Europe Associated Countries influences the development and market uptake of emerging technologies, at the EU and national level. 🔎 Read more about the study in our latest #Spotlight at https://lnkd.in/dRMTaRcS #KnowledgeforImpact #innovation

In today's dynamic world, fostering #innovation requires flexible regulatory approaches. Regulatory sandboxes, testbeds, and living labs provide crucial tools for collaboration between regulators and innovators. These experimentation spaces provide the opportunity for innovators to test new ideas and regulators to develop innovative legislation to regulate breakthrough technologies. As such, they provide high potential for #EIC beneficiaries to develop and scale up their disruptive innovations that challenge existing legislative frameworks. As part of our ongoing study for European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) on Innovative Regulatory Practices in Legislation around Emerging Technologies, Fabian Landes from 4FRONT had interesting discussions with many EIC stakeholders & beneficiaries on regulatory challenges in EIC funded projects. #RIWeek2024 #EICSummit24 👉 Stay tuned for the first results of our study! #emergingtech #experimentation #researchandinnovation

Poorly crafted legislation can adversely affect Europe’s technology sectors by imposing significant burdens. This then undermines Europe’s appeal for investment, innovation, and progress in the twin green and digital transitions. Orgalim has prepared a series of case studies on excessive regulatory burdens arising from EU legislation. The case studies also include recommendations to ensure that, in the long run, regulation can drive competitiveness. This case study focuses on the unnecessary administrative burden for Declarations of Conformity, instruction manuals and CE marking. This might look like the traditional industry plea "we do not want to many rules for what we do". However, this is mainly a plea for consistency across EU product legislation areas on topics where there are no good reason for divergence. Such consistency makes compliance a lot simpler even if more areas are regulated. As such, its one of the few tools which can allow politicians to regulate further relevant topics (like cyber security) without too much of a burden on industry.
