It's been a fascinating morning at the #millenniumprize2024. We heard opening keynotes from Amandeep Singh Gill on how to ensure that technology leads us towards a #utopia and not a #dystopia and from Malte Lohan on how AI can help us consider different perspectives when making a moral judgment. Karl Deisseroth then wowed the audience with groundbreaking #biotech #research. Next, we listened to him discuss tricky ethical dilemmas and how to find the balance between regulation and innovation with Thierry Klein and Sabrina Maniscalco, led by Jason Palmer. Lastly, we heard quick-fire pitches from emerging researchers competing in the Millennium Young Scientist Contest 2024 - Iuliia Burdun, Ayşen Değerli Alishali, Bahar Mostafiz, Nidia Obscura Acosta, Pekko Tuominen. If these are the researchers of tomorrow, we have a lot to look forward to! 🤖 🧪🔬

A GREENER COMPETITIVENESS👷♂️👷♀️🏗️🪨♻️🌍: Europe's sustainable reindustrialisation is essential for its competitiveness in the global marketplace and a crucial step toward achieving environmental goals. This was the message that Jose Antonio Nieto Alvarez, president of the European construction equipment association, CECE, delivered in his opening address at the CECE Congress 2024, held in Madrid on October 23-25. The event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and key stakeholders to discuss the future of the European construction equipment sector under the overarching theme of Europe's reindustrialisation. The event aimed to highlight the opportunities instead of challenges in revitalising Europe’s industrial landscape. 🌟 Honoured to Speak at the event: “The Strategic Role of Standards for Europe’s Future”! 🌟 In this event organised by the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), I had the privilege of participating in Panel 1: “The Future of EU Standards: Navigating the Evolution of the ESS”. A heartfelt thank you to the organizers for putting together such a significant event, to the panel moderator Stéphane du Boispéan and to my fellow panellists Alberto Simeoni, Andrea Raffaelli, Jochen Friedrich for their insightful contributions. My key takeaways from the overall event: 🎯 Regulation 1025/2012: happy to see that many stakeholders agreed with the Orgalim view that the issues affecting the European Standardisation System (ESS) can be addressed without a full revision of the Regulation. But the big question remains: what concrete measures can improve the situation? 🎯 Stakeholder Involvement: Effective stakeholder engagement remains a cornerstone for the success of the ESS. Transparency and the consensus-based approach are the key for an efficient, market-relevant and effective system. 🎯 Harmonised standards: challenges in ensuring timely assessment and citation of harmonized standards are a reality. A proportionate and pragmatic approach to the request, development and citation of harmonised standards is essential. 🎯 Attracting and retaining talent: this is a clear need for the standardisation sector and it may mean different actions, depending on the type of organisation involved (ESOs, companies, university, annex III organisations, ...). Improvement of the co-creation process, especially through digital tools, has a big role to play. 🎯 Global Alignment: Aligning with international standardisation is vital to avoid trade barriers and maintain Europe’s role as a global standard-setter, especially in the context of emerging digital technologies. Looking forward to continuing these important discussions and contributing to the future of European standards! #Standards #EU #Innovation #Regulation1025 #ESS #DigitalTransformation
