Embracing paradoxical tensions is key to driving systemic change in urban energy transitions. Our paper on "Cross-Sectoral Collaborative Business Model Development for Sustainability" published in Organization & Environment dives into the paradoxical tensions that arise when stakeholders aim for systemic #sustainability transformations through collaborative #businessmodel development. 🔍 Through paradox theory, we identify three key tensions—value, creativity, and consumer tensions—that, if engaged correctly, can unlock synergy and creativity. However, existing barriers at the meso and macro levels often hinder stakeholders' ability to fully harness this potential. 🤝 Our findings highlight the critical role of trust and strategic orchestration in overcoming these barriers, advocating for a reconsideration of regulatory frameworks to better support these engagements. This research is relevant for industries transitioning towards more decentralized, individualized models and underscores the need for early stakeholder integration and collaboration across different levels. Great work, Christian Tschiedel and Tim Feiter, I am proud of you and happy to be a part of this research! We thank DELTA – Darmstädter Energie-Labor für Technologien in der Anwendung and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action for making this research possible. As the world intensifies its fight against climate change, innovators in climate finance are shaping the future of sustainable investments. At the 2024 New York Climate Week, alumni of the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (the Lab) shared transformative strategies and solutions during a high-profile panel discussion at the Lab Summit. The panel, moderated by Ben Broché, Associate Director at Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), brought together three visionaries from past Lab cohorts: Martha de Sá (2023 Lab alumna): Founder of Violet, a Brazilian company advancing sustainable agriculture finance and bioeconomy initiatives like the Amazônia Viva Financing Mechanism.Las Perera (2022 Lab alumnus): Creator of the Green Guarantee Company, a pioneer in de-risking climate investments in emerging markets. Sanjay Wagle (2017 Lab alumnus): Co-creator of the Climate Resilience and Adaptation Finance & Technology Transfer Facility (CRAFT), the first growth equity fund targeting climate adaptation. ⚡ Massachusetts is paving the way for breakthrough technologies in the climate and energy sector! A quick pitchbook search reveals that in 2024, Massachusetts based companies raised almost 30% of all VC dollars in climatetech/cleantech in the US, outperforming any other US state. The Commonwealth aims to invest $1.3B to cement Massachusetts’ position as the leading climate innovation lab for the world. The administration is right to stress that - next to addressing our greatest global challenge – this will catalyze $16.3B of economic benefits and create 6670 jobs: https://lnkd.in/eB3Vx72K The initiative lists ‘ecosystem builders’ as a key part of Massachusetts’ secret sauce, and I couldn’t agree more. There are so many organizations dedicated to convening and strengthening this ecosystem, collaboratively and across disciplines. Many supported the initiative, which is part of the Mass Leads Act, through this coordinated effort: https://lnkd.in/ePeHduib I'm also impressed by MIT's dedication to this cause, most recently emphasized by the launch of its climate project, an ambitious plan to research, develop, deploy, and scale up solutions to help change the planet’s climate trajectory: https://lnkd.in/eABAJqic 👀 I’m curious how much of the investments in Massachusetts based companies could be categorized as deeptech, as I suspect it’s a high percentage compared to other regions!
