A new report from World Economic Forum lays out a breakthrough model for financing and collaboration to support farmers and accelerate the transition to sustainable food production. Research on more than 50 U.S. regenerative agriculture programs informed the report's findings, which highlight how capital and capabilities can be coordinated and deployed more effectively to address economic, technical, and social barriers to farmer adoption. Our members Bayer, Environmental Defense Fund, Nutrien Ag Solutions, PepsiCo, and Unilever and partners Practical Farmers of Iowa and Precision Conservation Management contributed to the report. A recent report by the World Economic Forum and Bain & Company underscores the urgent need for transformation in global food systems towards sustainability, highlighting the significant economic, technical, and social barriers farmers face in adopting regenerative practices. The report calls for a substantial increase in capital investment, emphasizing a coordinated approach to deploy resources effectively, supporting farmers through financial and non-financial services. At Gårdskapital Agricultural Impact Fund we specialize in tailored lending services for Swedish farm businesses implementing more sustainable practices that also help improve financial performance. During 2024 we see growing opportunities for a profitable transition in the Swedish agricultural space. Our view is that the core solution is a greater level of public and private investment in farmers regenerating the core asset of the agricultural sector - the SOIL. Interesting to see Bain & Company and the World Economic Forum report with some very important findings for healthy food, planet, climate, and people: 1) In the long run, regenerative agriculture delivers a variety of ecosystem services and leads to higher profits for farmers. 2) In the short run there are costs in the transition phase, and those costs are next to access to knowledge, the major blocker for farmers to implement regenerative practices 3) There is way too little investment in agriculture for the importance that it has, only 4% of all climate investment is in agriculture or other land use sectors, while 30% of GHG emissions come from food & agriculture

Thursday Thoughts: What happens next…? 1). What happens next when connections to ecosystem impact data from farms becomesl granular and efficiently communicated? 1a). What changes about the ag service landscape? 2). What happens next when a brand wants to invest in positive ecosystem change? 2a). How do brands looking to make investments at scale implement a system of accountability? Don’t you dare say “a checklist”. 3). If you see something creating a negative outcome, what happens next? #sustainability #regenerativeagriculture #organicfood #heyfarmerputinawaterway #stewardship #biodiversity #carbon

The World Economic Forum and Bain & Company recently published a report outlining the financing and collaboration needed to support farmers in accelerating a transition to sustainable food production. It articulates the economic, technical and social barriers to adoption — presenting ways to address each. Here are key takeaways for scaling regenerative practices, especially #agroforestry: 1. Investing in agroforestry is smart business. Financial actors can reduce their risk exposure and open up new business opportunities while turbocharging regenerative agriculture programs 2. Put farmers first when designing programs. Farmers should be offered a flexible stack of financial and non-financial services from which they can select the support they need based on their specific context 3. Collaborate! Brands need pre-competitive collaboration along value chain companies to aggregate demand for environmental outcomes and improved farm resilience Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eVvk-nxy
