Kudos to the three finalists for UC San Diego's inaugural Chancellor's Innovation Startup of the Year Award! Is it a coincidence that they're all co-founded by engineers, based off technologies developed in Jacobs School of Engineering research labs?! We think not. Ultimately, Vektor Medical, Inc. won the prize for their AI-based heart arrhythmia localization and analysis technology, vMap, which uses computational modeling and proprietary algorithms to identify arrhythmia source locations non-invasively. The FDA-cleared solution, which currently is in use at 10 hospitals across the U.S., relies solely on 12-lead ECG data to determine each individual patient’s arrhythmia source location and help inform targeted therapy for that patient. Vektor was co-founded by Andrew McCulloch, a distinguished professor of bioengineering and Shu Chien Chancellor’s Endowed Chair in Engineering and Medicine, and David Krummen, a professor of medicine at UC San Diego and cardiac electrophysiologist at UC San Diego Health and VA San Diego Healthcare System.  The other startup finalists include Persperion Diagnostics Inc., which is commercializing a noninvasive glucose test using just the sweat on your fingertip, and South 8 Technologies, which is building batteries that are engineered to withstand extreme cold conditions. https://lnkd.in/d9HjgnU2 Learn more about the finalists and winners here: https://lnkd.in/ga4PVRGb

The potential is limitless, and it’s exciting to see how innovation can make the world safer and smarter
