“People come in with rough exteriors, not willing to accept help. They've lost trust in healthcare. They've lost trust in homeless services, but here they have their own room and a TV. And they get to choose when they eat, and they have a dresser, and I think it just helps people change and think, ‘Maybe there’s something different for me. Maybe I don't need to just stay in the cycle of homelessness and, you know, in and out of the shelter.’” Powerful profile of The INN Between, a not-for-profit organization that offers a wide range of services for homeless patients and those in unsafe living conditions, in HealthLeaders. Find out why #healthcare leaders should take notice, according to Eric Wicklund, managing editor, HealthLeaders Media. #healthcare #homelessness #SDOH

Imagine living on the streets, struggling with illness, and the only place you can turn to for help is the emergency department. Each visit costs an average of $3,700, leading to the day of inpatient treatment, much of which isn't covered by insurance. Unfortunately, for many experiencing homelessness or unstable living conditions, this is the reality. In Salt Lake City, the INN Between offers these people an 80-bed assisted living facility equipped to provide hospice services and a compassionate environment where they can focus on healing. This model challenges us to rethink how we provide care. It's not enough to treat symptoms in the ED, we need to address the root causes that keep people coming back. The INN is a powerful example of how we can start to close the gaps in our systems providing dignity, care, and hope to those who need it the most. #HealthcareInnovation #CommunityCare #PublicHealth #PatientCare

Spotlight Tuesday! New Beginnings in Fayetteville is taking a significant step forward with the introduction of 'A Place to Heal,' a pioneering program designed to offer medical respite for the city's unhoused population. This initiative, in collaboration with Washington Regional Medical Center and the Blue & You Foundation, aims to fill a critical gap in care by providing a safe space for individuals without homes to recover after hospital discharges. With the city's Planning Commission's recent approval, New Beginnings will add four microshelter units and a restroom facility to its site, enhancing its capacity to serve those in need. The program stems from a recognized need for proper post-hospital care environments for the unhoused, a challenge highlighted by the experiences of New Beginnings' staff in their previous work with the homeless community. The support from the Blue & You Foundation, with a generous $145,000 grant, alongside community contributions, underscores the collaborative effort behind this initiative. The project, with a first-year budget of $295,000, not only aims to provide immediate relief but also sets a precedent for innovative solutions to homelessness and healthcare. 'A Place to Heal' represents more than just a recovery space; it embodies a broader commitment to compassion, dignity, and holistic support within the Fayetteville community. As New Beginnings prepares to launch this program, the potential for its impact is immense, offering a model that could inspire similar efforts elsewhere. 🌟 Making a Difference for Homeless Individuals: My Commitment to Fight 🌟 Reading a powerful article on the struggles faced by homeless individuals after leaving hospitals in San Diego has deeply moved me. It has strengthened my resolve to fight for those who have little to no voice. People like Edward, CeCe Hughes, and George Moore deserve better, and I'm personally dedicated to enhancing our strategies at Harbor Light. Medical Respite programs are an essential component of the continuum of care for vulnerable people. They bridge the gap between hospital and home, providing hospitals a safe discharge option and allowing patients a safe space to rest, recuperate, and work on next steps to achieve housing and health stability. As we navigate this journey, I invite you to join me in advocating for real change. Let's amplify our impact by collaborating with local healthcare, social services organizations and policymakers, working towards a healthcare system that truly serves every individual. Together, we can make a profound difference and bring positive change to the lives of those who need it most. #Homelessness #Healthcare #CommunityImpact #Advocacy #DoingTheMostGood

As the Valley endures more triple-digit temperatures, mobile medical care units are crucial in providing relief to those experiencing homelessness. A New Leaf lauds Circle the City for their work to ensure our most in-need neighbors receive the care and relief they need. We partner with Circle the City at several shelter locations across the Valley. Circle the City’s five mobile medical units rotate through locations in Phoenix and Glendale, treating general, urgent, and behavioral healthcare needs. With resources like antibiotics, topical treatments, and even the ability to perform small procedures, these units are lifesavers in this extreme heat. Heat-related illnesses, such as heat strokes and exhaustion, are common during this time. The mobile units, equipped to provide necessary treatments, are on the front lines, aggressively treating burns and wounds to prevent infections and more serious complications. At A New Leaf, we are committed to breaking down barriers to medical care for the homeless. Through our collaboration with Circle the City, and their many other partners, we strive to bring essential healthcare services directly to those who need them most, ensuring no one is left without the care they deserve. https://lnkd.in/eedGjkTt

I’ve seen firsthand how telehealth opens doors to multiple specialized services for rural communities, services that were previously out of reach. It’s not just about technology; it’s about access and equity. This is more than policy change—it’s a step towards better health outcomes for everyone, no matter where they live. Let’s keep pushing for telehealth expansion. It’s a game-changer for rural health! #Telehealth #RuralHealth #HealthcareInnovation
This week, the National Rural Health Association has brought hundreds of providers and advocates from rural communities to Capitol Hill to ask Congress to pass the TREATS and CONNECT for Health Acts and maintain access to telehealth treatment for opioid use disorder. Buprenorphine access through telehealth is a lifeline, especially in rural areas where patients face long drives to in person providers - if they're available at all. And we know it's safe and effective, even when delivered through the phone. But the option to provide this care will disappear if Congress doesn't act - so thank you to the National Rural Health Association and members for your work! The United States continues its abysmal record of the highest maternal death rates of all high-income nations, according to a new report from The Commonwealth Fund. In 2022, the last year of available metrics, there were about 22 maternal deaths for every 100,000 live births in the United States – a rate more than double, sometimes triple, those in other high-income countries. The data is even more stark for Black women - nearly 50 deaths per 100,000 live births. What can you do? Join the cause by donating to those nonprofits committed to healthy Black and brown moms and babies. The Build Hope Fund, a Reina-Fox Philanthropy Services, LLC client, is addressing disparities in maternal healthcare for women of color through grantmaking. Build Hope proudly supported DC nonprofits Mamatoto Village and Community of Hope in 2023 and would like to see you join the fight for #maternalhealthequity in 2024. #maternalhealthcare #healthymoms #healthybabies https://lnkd.in/eQC5PUCv Stay updated on the latest philanthropy and nonprofit trends by following Reina-Fox Philanthropy Services, LLC's LinkedIn page.

Early and accurate diagnosis is vital in helping someone get the care, support, and treatment they need.
Big news from NHS England 🚨 It's being reported that record numbers of people in England have received a #dementia diagnosis in the past year. We're pleased to hear that more people are getting the diagnosis they need. And, we're getting close to meeting the 66.7% target for diagnosis rates. This is thanks to a huge, concerted effort from the NHS to get those rates up. A good result, but there's still a lot of work to do. Early and accurate diagnosis is vital in helping someone get the care, support, and treatment they need. A third of people with dementia in England are living without a diagnosis, and there's big variation in diagnosis rates based on where you live. This needs to change. We need bold, ambitious and achievable new targets to make sure everyone gets the diagnosis they need. And we're ready to support NHS England in any way we can to get more people diagnosed. #News #Health #Charity
