Thanks to Bella Doswell CCDP, RCDP, and Katherine Jennick RCDP for the fantastic Asia Pacific Career Development Association (APCDA) Webinar on uniting Career Development Practitioners (CDPs) globally to drive change in our profession. I learned a lot from this insightful session. It was also enlightening to hear the diverse experiences shared by professionals from different countries, including Ma. Leonila Urrea, PhD., Marilyn Maze, Sini Parampota, and Elizabeth Montgomery. Absolutely! CDPs must unite and drive the global movement to make a significant impact. We need to build strong alliances and garner support from policymakers, the human resources fraternity, educational institutions, and many more. Together, we can elevate the profession and create lasting change. Here are the Challenges Faced by Career Development Professionals (CDPs) in Malaysia 1. Awareness and Recognition + Low Awareness: Many people don’t understand the role of CDPs. + Recognition: CDPs often lack professional recognition and respect. 2. Training and Resources + Limited Training: CDPs need more opportunities for professional development. + Lack of Resources: Access to updated tools and technology is limited. 3. Funding Issues + Tight Budgets: Many programs operate with very limited funding. + Sustainability: It’s hard to maintain programs without consistent financial support. 4. Changing Job Market + Rapid Changes: Keeping up with fast-changing job markets is tough. + Future Skills: Identifying future job skills is increasingly complex. 5. Engagement + Student Involvement: Getting students to participate in career activities is challenging. + Employer Cooperation: It’s hard to get employers involved in providing opportunities. 6. Policy and Structure + Policy Support: There’s a lack of strong support from the government and institutions. + Bureaucracy: Rigid structures can limit the effectiveness of programs. 7. Digital Divide + Tech Access: Not everyone has access to necessary digital tools. + Digital Skills: Varying levels of comfort and skill with technology. 8. Mental Health + Burnout: CDPs often experience high levels of stress. + Client Well-being: Supporting clients’ mental health adds complexity. 9. Cultural Expectations + Cultural Norms: Cultural and societal expectations influence career choices. + Family Influence: Family expectations can conflict with professional advice. 10. Measuring Impact + Assessment: It’s difficult to measure the success of career development programs. + Data: Collecting and using data to improve programs is a challenge. Addressing these challenges requires cooperation from the government, educational institutions, employers, and the career development community. #SoMuchMoreThanTalkingAboutJobs

Bridging the Gap: How Structured Workplace Learning is Shaping the Future of Australia’s Workforce In Australia's rapidly evolving education and employment sectors, Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) is emerging as a game-changer, reshaping the landscape of vocational training and workforce development. As a core component of the Vocational Education and Training (VET) framework, SWL integrates classroom learning with practical, hands-on experience, equipping students with the skills and confidence to excel in real-world workplaces. This innovative approach is revolutionising vocational education, benefiting students, schools, employers, and communities while setting a benchmark for workforce development globally. SWL programs are designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, addressing a long-standing concern in traditional education systems. By immersing students in authentic work environments, these programs provide invaluable opportunities for learners to apply their classroom knowledge, develop critical thinking skills, and gain exposure to industry-specific practices and technologies. This hands-on experience not only enhances students' technical proficiency but also cultivates essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving – attributes highly sought after by employers in today's competitive job market. For students, the benefits of SWL extend far beyond skill acquisition. Participation in these programs offers a unique chance to explore potential career paths, build professional networks, and gain insights into workplace culture and expectations. This early exposure to the professional world can significantly inform career... How can we give young people the best chance for future career success? The CIPD has recently published a report on the Changing Face of the Youth Labour Market. One key recommendation? For the government to adopt the Skills Builder Universal Framework as part of its curriculum and assessment review. By embedding essential skills into education, we can prepare young people for the complex challenges of the modern job market and ensure they can confidently transition into fulfilling careers. Let’s work together to make this a reality. What are your thoughts on how we can better equip young people with the skills they need to succeed? Read full report here: https://lnkd.in/ea3A_hdn
