Horizon Power's really interesting, in that it has one of the most geographically diffuse customer bases in the world. Western Australia is distinctly rural, making its grid hard to manage. In that regard Horizon has more than most in common with rural electric coops in the US. It also is seeing the expansion in the deployment of solar, batteries and other "distributed energy resources" that the now "Exurbian" rural parts of US states like North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas and other states are experiencing. Non-profit, customer-owned coops were conceived as the answer to the inability of investor-owned utilities to deliver power to outlying customers They're now at the center of the #energytransition in the US as well as Australia.
