Over the past year, after my admission in Immersive Media Design, MIT-ID I've been diving into the world of augmented reality, creating Instagram filters in my free time using Meta Spark AR. It's been an incredible journey of blending creativity and technology to produce some truly interactive experiences.
I'm thrilled to share some insights on the process! 🌟
🔍 Target Tracking: Recognizes and responds to specific images or objects, making the AR experience highly interactive and context-aware.
✋ Hand Tracking: Detects and responds to hand movements, allowing users to control elements within the AR space with simple gestures.
📏 Plane Tracking: Identifies flat surfaces in the environment, enabling the realistic placement of virtual objects within the physical space.
🖼️ Frame Filter: Adds creative frames to photos and videos, enhancing the fun and personalization of the AR experience.

Time for a Reality Check
I’ve been diving into the Frames offering by Brilliant Labs, and what I’ve discovered is alarming.
They promise cutting-edge features and immersive experiences.
But here’s the kicker: reality doesn’t match the marketing.

Narrow View: instead of a full colorful display, you get a thin slit, just 6mm high. These on my head don’t match the website as you can see in the video.
Frustrated customers: faulty chargers and lackluster customer service is leaving folks high and dry.
🔑Leasons for Tech Companies:
Transparency is not optional; it’s a must.
Don’t sell dreams and deliver disappointments,
Especially targeting early adopters who expect honesty.
We get it if products are in development & love to help you build better products.
Just don’t masquerade about what it COULD be saying what it IS now.
