“Stay in a job for at least two years.” “Never leave a job until you have your next one lined up.” Everyone from your mother to your mentor has advice about the best way to switch jobs. But how can you know whom to trust? Especially since what was true in the job market 20 years ago — is not necessarily gospel now. And the market is constantly changing. Let’s break the biggest myths around these for the best outcomes: 1. “Never tell your boss that you’re looking for another position.” Talk to them about it once & observe their reaction to it. Now companies keep the doors open in case you want to return & They make sure you leave on a positive note. 2. “Stay at a job for at least a year or two — moving around too much looks bad on a resume.” This is no longer true. Most employees leave their jobs within their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd anniversary. If you don’t feel like it’s adding to your growth or creativity, Changing gears is a need. 3. “Don’t quit your job before allowing your current employer to make a counteroffer.” It shouldn’t change your decision because: • There was a reason you started looking for another job. • Even if you stay, most likely you’ll start your next job search within the next 90 days. 4. Never make a lateral move — a new job is your only chance of making a big leap in title and compensation. “If you are going for title and compensation, think again!” More money and a better title rarely are what make you happy in a job. Instead, look for autonomy, mastery, and purpose. 5. “You should always be looking for your next job.” This is no longer true. If you are doing a truly fulfilling job, you shouldn’t ideally be looking for a different one. P.S. What’s a big Corporate myth you know? Best Career Tips‼️
Connecting Talent & Opportunity in Himachal Pradesh | Jobs Updates & Recruitment Solutions for Job Seekers and Employers
If you're planning to gain experience and request a letter before leaving a job, here are some tips to ensure the process goes smoothly: 1. Consistent Performance Ensure you are consistently performing well and maintaining a positive reputation. Employers are more likely to provide a good recommendation if you are reliable and efficient. 2. Maintain Professional Relationships Build strong, professional relationships with your supervisors and colleagues. Networking and maintaining goodwill can help when you request experience letters later. 3. Ask in Advance Inform your employer early if you’re planning to leave, giving them time to prepare your experience letter. Sudden requests can make it difficult for employers to provide a detailed reference. 4. Be Clear About Expectations When requesting an experience letter, specify the job roles, responsibilities, and skills you want included. This ensures that the letter highlights your strengths and contributions accurately. 5. Complete Pending Tasks Before leaving, finish any pending assignments or hand over duties properly. Employers appreciate responsible behavior and will reflect that in your experience letter. 6. Provide a Draft (If Necessary) If your manager is busy, offer to provide a draft of the letter that they can review and approve. This makes their job easier and ensures all relevant information is included. 7. Exit Gracefully Leave the organization on good terms, without burning bridges. A respectful exit ensures that you can request help in the future, including letters of recommendation or referrals. These steps can help you get a strong, positive experience letter that will support your career growth. #careertips

Helping women find alignment with purpose while building dream careers on their terms | Career Coach | Licensed HR Professional | Ex Recruiter of 10+ Years | Founder of Your Next Career with Linda
REAL TALK. Should staying loyal to your employer cost you $$ ... and perhaps more? Of course not! Back in the day, it was frowned down to those who make frequent career changes and even till today, there is still that stigma that “job hoppers” are unreliable and not trustworthy. I can tell you from my own career path, I have made TONs of moves that have drastically advanced my career… and ironically, I worked in HR! Especially nowadays with things getting insanely expensive, there is still a huge gap between what people are earning versus the actual living standards. So, there is more of the motivation as to why people are making the move they are today. People are NOT paid enough. … and they should NOT be punished for having to make the right choice for their life and career. Simple as that. But I can tell you that had I stayed with any employer more than 5 years, I can guarantee that my salary would NOT be as high compared to the moves that I made throughout my career. So why are we being punished for staying loyal? Now just so we are clear, the moves you make throughout your career NEEDS TO MAKE SENSE. That’s where your storytelling skills come in. Don’t be afraid to illustrate it to your potential employers. So the next time you are ready to make a career, focus on your own goals. Determine what are your main priorities when it comes to your career (ie. title change, increase in salary, job enrichment, flexibility etc.) as this will help determine if the move makes sense for you. Have you been in a situation where you had wished you made a move earlier in your career? Or have you made a move that you regretted and wished you hadn’t? 👇 --- ☞ Check out my new FREE 5-day Career Clarity Challenge.
