Director at MyCarbon🦸Saving the world through Calculating, Reducing and Offsetting carbon impact 🌍 Social Scientist 🥼 Sustainability Expert 🌱 Fitness Nerd 🏋️
Yesterday, it was this lovable rogues 3rd birthday. He celebrated it by eating half a pack of cheese off a counter, adding to his lifetime carbon footprint which is estimated to be similar to that of a large SUV*. For most dogs, like humans, foods that contain meat or other animal products make up a large portion of carbon emissions due to their production, water use and land involved. And, at the risk of making myself popular with fellow canine owners, dogs actually (due to their size and consumption rate) have a larger footprint than cats or other smaller domestic pets. Less space and fewer resources in terms of accessories and care products means less impact. In the land of carbon accounting, size really does matter. However...Albus doesn't know anything about carbon footprints. He's more of an expert on fetching balls, belly rubs and making my daughter giggle. Which I'd say provides a fairly large net positive in other ways. If you do want to read about how we are helping tackle emissions associated with pets, have a read of our BHJ case study: https://lnkd.in/gd45tKbt *"Time to Eat the Dog? The Real Guide to Sustainable Living" by Brenda and Robert Vale #Sustainability #PetsAndEnvironment #CarbonFootprint #MyCarbon

Sustainability – with many if not all environments in a delicate state, we need to consider this for our pets too. Seriously. That includes their waste. An interesting study in Belgium involved estimating input of nitrogen and phosphorus from dog feces and urine in peri-urban areas. Link in comments. And it was not insignificant. Particularly from feces. While it might not feel like our pets on their own are having a lot of impact, when that is multiplied by all of the dogs accessing such areas it is a big deal. So the main message is – pick it up. Always! And for organizations in charge of these areas, a lot more information is needed on which ones should be dog-free. And as importantly, places where dogs can be welcome to live their outdoor and social lives. #petsustainability #sustainabilitygoals #abetterworldforpets The views expressed in my posts are my own and do not reflect the views of my employer.

The beauty in this video is unmatched. From the dog to the ice, to the skippy steps the dog is taking, everything screams perfection. This is what we get when everything is in place - a serene and calming beauty. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, this video serves as a prompt of our responsibility to maintain nature, peace, and order. A delicate balance exists in our natural world, and it is our duty to maintain that balance. One careless action can have far-reaching consequences for our environment. We should not overlook our role in sustaining nature, and prioritizing convenience and immediate gratification over long-term sustainability is one of the careless actions. If we continue down this path of neglecting our environment, we risk losing moments of tranquility and beauty like this. Maintaining nature requires us to be mindful of our actions and make conscious choices that promote sustainability. It means reducing our carbon footprint by using renewable energy sources and minimizing waste production. It means preserving natural habitats for animals like this dog and more to thrive. It also means maintaining peace and order which goes hand in hand with sustainability. When we disrupt ecosystems through deforestation or pollution, we not only harm wildlife but also disrupt delicate ecological balances that can lead to conflict among species. While this video may seem simple on the surface – just a dog walking on ice – it serves as a profound reminder of our responsibility towards sustainability and maintaining nature's harmony. Let us strive to protect and preserve our environment so that we will not be the only generation who can experience this beauty. #sustainability #impact #impactinvesting #animals #wildlife #alternativeenergy #nature

At Mars our commitment to sustainability is deeply intertwined with our love for pets. The decisions we make are guided by our desire to create a better world, one where pets and pet parents can thrive. Our latest Sustainable in a Generation Report highlights how we are driving down GHG emissions while growing our business. We have removed 5.7 million metric tons of GHG from our full value chain — the equivalent GHG emissions generated by more than 1.3 million gasoline-powered automobiles in a year. Our approach focuses on three key areas: healthy planet, thriving people, and nourishing wellbeing. And we’re working hard to bring more sustainable choices to pet parents, from packaging that is easier to recycle, reuse, and compost, to lower impact ingredients in our pet food which are just as nutritious and palatable. By building strong collaborations and working together we can make a real difference and ensure a healthier, happier future for our beloved pets and the planet we love. 🌈 Sharing is caring, let’s share the news about sustainability. Caring is a beautiful force that extends beyond our human experience. In our daily lives, we appreciate the positive impact of sharing and empathy. It's worth noting that this isn't just a human trait because oftentimes nature shows us heartwarming instances that remind us of the universal essence of caring. ♥️ In this beautiful video, a monkey and a turtle shows that kindness and giving transcends beyond us and goes deep into the animal kingdom. The monkey, after taking a bite from an apple, gives it to the turtle to take a bite too. The moment is beautiful, what with the monkey taking two bites and having the turtle take. It’s the thoughts that count though. 💕 Monkeys, much like us, showcase incredible levels of empathy and sharing within their social structures. Scientific studies delve into their social intelligence, showing the importance they place on fairness within their groups. Understanding these little variations improves our appreciation for the caring nature inherited by every species in the natural world. 💝 It's beautiful how we can pick lessons from just about anything including animals and apply to our own lives as humans. There is a meaningful connection between this inspiring animal interaction and our shared responsibility for water sustainability. 🌟 The act of sharing witnessed in the video can serve as a metaphor for our collective duty to care for the planet. Just as the monkey shared its apple, we must share the responsibility of preserving our most vital resource - water. When we care and team up, we're making a positive mark on how we handle water. This helps create a world where everyone can live together harmoniously and look out for one another.. #water #sustainability #Impactinvesting #Impact #nature #kindness #love #empathy
