Proud to share this newly released white paper I authored for TapRoot Interventions & Solutions: “Revolutionizing Dementia Caregiving with Data-Driven Technology: Enhancing Quality of Care for Individuals with Dementia in Senior Living.” There is a pervasive misconception that the remedy for behavioral reactions commonly experienced by people living with dementia lies solely in medical treatment. In the paper, I make the case for a new way forward–one that leverages technology to help direct care workers implement non-pharmacological, person-centered approaches. Look forward to hearing thoughts from colleagues and sparking a broader conversation on how we can improve dementia caregiving. New Model to Support Dementia Caregivers in the USA The recently announced Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience (GUIDE) model aims to improve the quality of life for people living with #dementia and reduce the burden on their caregivers. The model is scheduled to be implemented on July 1, 2024. This model offers a range of support measures, including: ▪ Care Coordination and Management: Assists patients and #caregivers in navigating the healthcare system. ▪Education and Support: Provides training programs for best practices in dementia care. ▪Respite Services: Offers annual compensation for respite services, allowing caregivers to take much-needed breaks. The GUIDE model is a step toward ensuring that caregivers have the resources and #support they need to continue providing high-quality care at home and in the community. This initiative can significantly improve care quality and reduce stress for caregivers worldwide. #dementiacare #caregivers #health #queensilvianursingawards #caredevelopment U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) https://lnkd.in/d5JMsHjs

Globally, clinicians are both under-educated on #dementia, and under-resourced to provide adequate post-diagnosis care for people living with dementia. Medical school and other training for clinicians focuses on the medical interventions of an illness rather than psychosocial challenges for patients and their families. 🚨 For people #LIVINGwithDementia and their caregivers, this just doesn’t cut it. 🚨 Care teams must become dementia care specialists and be skilled in the critical areas that help people navigate the day to day. This is why we built the Rippl Academy - exclusively for our care teams. At the Rippl Academy, our focus for training is on the medical complexity of dementia but also behavioral health issues, social determinants of health, stigma of dementia, challenges of family dynamics, relationship building and more. That can take the form of our first-of-its-kind exclusive dementia training program developed with McLean Hospital or health equity training from Violet or a clinic on motivational interviewing. It all works together as we endeavor to set the gold standard of building a skilled, dementia-capable workforce. It’s all about delivering the right care by the right people at the right place and we’re committed to getting seniors the care they deserve. #donewaiting #createarippl #ripplchangemakers More information about the global lack of dementia care here: https://lnkd.in/e8vk9wkE More about the Rippl Academy here: https://lnkd.in/e3DvNTzp
