This says it all…FDA hasn’t approved a new medicine to treat PTSD in over 20 years! Coincidence… I think not. After three trips to DC and several state trips working on legislation and research proposals… I have yet to see the needle move, financially or through legislation. The reason is simple…it’s economics. They don’t wanna lose money that they are currently making. It’s about our corporate government making their margins. The more people are sick with addictions, PTSD, TBI or mental health “conditions” the more money goes into the healthcare system and insurance companies! We spend $5 TRILLION in annual healthcare. That’s $15K per person! We spend $7 billion on rehabilitation every year..with poor results. The federal government is using the VA system as a financial pump, filling countless prescriptions for SSRIs and Opioids to service men and women who go in harms way and come back with PTSD, neurological programming and other mental health issues. It’s called a system. We must realize that the system does not move until we the people put enough energy, suffering, and action into moving the needle ourselves. It starts we building awareness then demanding change by those we elect! Side note..the ONLY presidential candidate who has even addressed this atrocity and injustice of the FDA and the only candidate to sue major corporations, like Pfizer, is Mr. Robert Kennedy Jr. He is aware of the FDA and their tactics to stall these treatments for healing millions. Mr Kennedy has tweeted several times, his clear stance on MDMA and the FDA. Having spoken to Mr. Kennedy on several occasions in the past year…he is ready to help move this painful process along to get our veterans, police officers, firefighters and our medical providers the most effective treatments to heal the wounds of service. Episode 4 of Conversations we’ve never had was by far the hardest to record and edit but it was worth it. In “Stuck” Candice Harris and I explore the long-term physical and mental health impacts of child sexual abuse, what this looks like day-to-day and how we have learned to live alongside life-long symptoms. So often survivors are told to move on, to put their trauma away in a quiet little box or an individual therapy space – but nothing about trauma is quiet and without access to the right support at the right time our bodies will hold and absorb the pain for us. We talk about the evidence-base in terms of what works – choice, timing, readiness – most importantly love and connection. We cannot ever go back to the way things were, we must live alongside our trauma symptomology, but we don’t have to do this alone. If our families, friends, services and communities can become unstuck too in their understanding of child sexual abuse and its impacts we can move towards the collective healing journey that is needed.
