Very pleased to share our 12th annual Environmental Performance Accountability Report at Fraser Health Authority (https://lnkd.in/ge4p3qJj) In 2023, we developed our first Planetary Health Strategy, outlining the priorities to guide our work to ensure that our health system is resilient, sustainable and equitable for all. 2024 marks a year of exciting progress to deliver on our commitment to leading in social and environmental responsibility: screening 26 facilities for climate hazard exposure and prioritizing action; adding to new research on emissions from inhalers; switching to reusable sharps containers that help reduce waste; and launching a 50 per cent transit subsidy to support staff to take more sustainable commutes. We will also continue to work to understand and respectfully incorporate Indigenous traditional ecological knowledge into decision-making, partnering with the 32 First Nations, Métis Nation BC and Inuit living in the Fraser Salish region to ensure we are making culturally appropriate decisions. https://lnkd.in/ggEgRV-a

ALCA has provided a submission to the Great Outdoors Taskforce on the future of Victoria’s state forests. The transition out of native forest logging is a unique opportunity to safeguard Victoria’s nature for generations to come. ALCA has put forward six key recommendations, emphasising the importance of expanding protected areas within state forests. These recommendations align with the Victorian Government's cornerstone environmental policy, and national and global commitments to protect 30% of land by 2030: 1. Recognise the strong community support for National Parks in Victoria. 2. Consider the creation of new National Parks during the transition of state forests out of native forest logging. 3. Expand Victoria’s protected area estate in state forests to help meet state, national, and international obligations. 4. Acknowledge the role of protected areas in driving regional tourism and economic activity. 5. Convene a roundtable with environmental organisations, First Nations communities, and ecological experts. 6. If new National Parks are not created, detail a strategy and funding commitments to achieve the 30 by 30 land protection target. Read our full submission here: https://lnkd.in/gDEf5MWj

🌍 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐔𝐂’𝐬 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 After consulting over 70,000 stakeholders, including members, volunteers, and partners, the National Trust recently unveiled its 10-year strategy. The strategy focuses on four goals: restoring nature, ensuring equitable access to nature and history, inspiring action, and renewing operational practices. To reverse the decline in nature the strategy aims to protect 30% of UK land and create 250,000 hectares of nature-rich landscapes. Key initiatives include promoting nature-friendly farming and reconnecting fragmented landscapes. At LUC we bring extensive knowledge of agri-environment scheme development, monitoring and implementation. In addition to expertise in strategic ecology, nature recovery and the historic environment, which uniquely positions us to continually support the Trust in achieving its ambitious goals. 📚 Read more about the National Trust’s strategy and LUC’s contributions here:

The Green Budget Coalition just released a powerful set of recommendations for Canada's 2025 federal budget, aiming to tackle the climate and biodiversity crises. As nature lovers, these proposals are vital to our future, ensuring we protect our ecosystems while improving quality of life for all. Y2Y is proud to be one of 22 Green Budget Coalition members who presented these key recommendations to the House of Commons Finance Committee in early October. They include delivering on nature commitments, supporting sustainable jobs, promoting resilient retrofits, and fostering environmental justice. Importantly, Y2Y has been part of ensuring Indigenous-led conservation and ecological connectivity are part of these recommendations. Together, we can help shape a sustainable future for Canada’s people and wildlife!
