Opt for walking, cycling, or using public transit for your daily commute or errands whenever possible. Consider carpooling or ride-sharing with friends, family, or coworkers to reduce the number of vehicles on the road and share transportation costs. Research electric vehicles (EVs) and alternative fuel vehicles as environmentally-friendly alternatives to conventional gasoline-powered cars. By promoting green transportation, we can create cleaner, healthier, and more vibrant communities for generations to come. #ECO30Impact

Cycling: A Green Solution for Sustainable Urban Living As cities grow and populations increase, the need for sustainable transportation options has never been more urgent. Cycling presents an efficient, eco-friendly solution that not only helps reduce carbon emissions but also promotes healthier lifestyles. In our rapidly urbanizing world, cycling offers a simple yet powerful way to address the challenges of traffic congestion, pollution, and sedentary habits. Beyond individual health benefits, cycling contributes to broader environmental goals. By reducing reliance on fossil-fuel-powered vehicles, we can significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions, conserve energy, and lower urban pollution levels. Moreover, bicycles take up much less space than cars, helping to ease traffic jams and creating a more peaceful, connected community. Incorporating cycling infrastructure into urban planning is essential to fostering sustainable cities. Bike lanes, parking spaces, and bike-sharing systems can transform how we move, making cycling accessible and safe for everyone. Our self-sustainable city embraces this vision, integrating cycling as a core component of everyday life. It’s about giving residents the tools to make greener choices effortlessly. 🗨 🚴♀️ 🚶♂️ Many of us have been there in meetings or writing policy, trying to describe sustainable transport. And we land on “Non-Motorized Transport.” But seriously: ❌ 🚗 What does "non-motorized" even mean? It’s a catch-all term that reinforces a car-centric mindset, making walking and cycling seem like exceptions. It doesn’t really do justice to the actual modes of transport we’re talking about. 🚶♀️ Walking and 🚴♂️ cycling have distinct policy requirements and lumping them together overlooks key differences: 👣 People walking need safe, accessible sidewalks, protected crossings, seating, and proper lighting. 🚲 Cyclists need separated bike lanes, secure parking, and protection from motor traffic. These groups shouldn’t be treated the same because their infrastructure needs are different. 💡 Solution? Let’s call it what it is: Walking and Cycling. Simple, clear, and focused on delivering the infrastructure and attention both groups deserve. What do you think about it? Let's discuss in the comments! #UrbanMobility #Walking #Cycling #ActiveMobility Meme by Nikola Medimorec

Did you know that in Europe, bicycles often outpace cars in city environments? Not only that, but they also help save a significant 16 million tons of CO2 annually. What more reason do you need to celebrate #WorldBicycleDay? 🚲 🌍 More and more cities are following in the footsteps of bike-friendly leaders such as Amsterdam and Stockholm, making significant strides in creating safer, more inclusive environments for cycling. 🛒 And with Europeans purchasing approximately 17.7 million bicycles in 2023 alone, it's clear that the bicycle is more than just a mode of transport—it's a movement towards sustainability! Yet, according to Eurostat, cars still dominate our streets as the primary mode of daily transport ⬇️ ✅ To meet the EU’s climate, zero pollution and energy efficiency goals, cycling must be at the centre of mobility policies at all levels. The recent European Declaration on Cycling is a crucial step in this direction, but there's still much work to be done. 🤝 This World Bicycle Day, EIT Urban Mobility reinforces its commitment to fostering active modes of transport and advancing its mission towards sustainable, safe, inclusive urban spaces for all. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗕𝗶𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆? Treat yourself to a bicycle ride, whether for leisure or commuting, and enjoy the bicycle for what it is: a unique, versatile, and sustainable mode of transport. While out, take note of the challenges facing cyclists in your area and use the day to advocate for more cycling-friendly policies! 🚴♀️🌍 #WorldBicycleDay #UrbanMobility #SustainableMobility #Cycling EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology | Eurostat | European Commission | Dutch Cycling Embassy |

Why aren't our cities cycling-friendly yet? 🚴♂️🌆 In many parts of the world, urban mobility is not just a choice but a necessity. Despite cycling being one of the most sustainable and healthy modes of transport, its integration into urban planning could be faster. As a cyclist, you might often feel sidelined in the city's transport hierarchy, from insufficient cycling lanes to the need for secure bike parking. But remember, every time you choose to cycle, you're not just benefiting the environment but also your health and well-being. The benefits are clear: reduced traffic congestion, lower emissions, improved public health, and more vibrant local economies. Yet, barriers persist. Is it a lack of political will or public resistance to change? Interestingly, cities that have embraced cycling culture show us a glimpse into a resilient future post-pandemic, where cycling could play a pivotal role in recovery strategies. Let's rally together for better cycling infrastructure in our cities! It's time to shift gears and prioritise sustainability over convenience. What changes would you like to see in your city to make it more cycle-friendly? At the margins of the Informal Transport European Council, the #EuropeanDeclarationOnCycling was signed by Adina Valean, Karima Delli and Georges Gilkinet. 🚲👏 The institutions are thereby calling for: • more investments in infrastructure 🛣️ • improving road safety 🦺 • and supporting multimodality 🚏 Improvements in cycling infrastructure will also benefit #MicroMobility users as they share the same infrastructure and rely on national, regional and local decision-makers to move away from car-centric spatial planning. Promoting investments in cycling infrastructure and acknowledging the role cycling can play for first/last-mile transport and complementing public transport are aspects that also apply to shared micro-mobility. Marc Naether, Co-Chair of Micro-Mobility for Europe stated: "Today is a historic moment that shows that cycling, walking and shared micro-mobility are increasingly receiving the attention of EU policy-makers, as they offer more sustainable and efficient modes of transport and are alternatives to privately-owned cars in urban areas. Looking ahead, we count on policy-makers to take ambitious action during the upcoming term and to monitor actions taken on national level to make the Declaration a reality." https://lnkd.in/eQbDdB2n
