LIMA AIRPORT PARTNERS is on a mission to create the first “airport city” in South America at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Peru. Considering the expansion, the new Jorge Chávez Airport will cover 940 hectares (three times larger than the current airport size) and deliver smart infrastructure integrated with Lima that is key to the economic growth of Peru and the development of the capital city into a regional hub. Already crossed off the to do list is the building of a new control tower and second landing strip, which started operations in April 2023. “We are introducing the concept of an airport city, which does not exist in South America, but does exist in Europe, in airports like Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid, and Barcelona, among others. This is a broader real estate development concept and plan that we start with, where we integrate various economic asset classes, complementing them with the surrounding area, with the Callao region, and with Metropolitan Lima,” explains Norbert Onkelbach, Chief Commercial Officer at Lima Airport Partners. Read on to learn more about the concept and LAP's sense of place retail strategy; plus, an update on the opening of the new passenger terminal. #globaltravelretail #lima #peru #passengerterminal #opening Carolina Rubio Zapata Rocío Espinoza Olcay Lucio Benavente, MBA

Enhancing Passenger Comfort and Modern Security at Debrecen Airport. Terminal expansion works are commencing at Debrecen (eastern Hungary) Airport, with a HUF 300M (EUR 751K) investment aimed at expanding the passenger hall and the security control area. This investment includes new equipment which does not require to take out large electronic devices from hand luggage during security checking, as reported by airportal.hu. Additionally, the current investment will enhance the capacity of the security screening, leading to shorter queuing times for passengers proceeding to the transit area. The expansion project is set to increase the useful floor area of the terminal by nearly ten percent. As the number of flights increases, there is a pressing need to modernize and expand the waiting halls and places affected by passenger traffic, such as security and passport control. The construction works will not disrupt normal operations. The airport operator anticipates continued growth in flight numbers following a temporary decline in traffic in previous years. They expect the expansion to result in an increase in available destinations, with twelve expected from Debrecen by 2024. Tamás Király, Managing Director of Debrecen International Airport Ltd., expressed confidence in a robust summer season ahead, despite the reduction in flight numbers earlier in the year. Key Fundamentals of Airport Masterplans ✈️ An airport masterplan serves as a vision of how the potential development of an airport could be realised. Although a masterplan is developed in the initial stages of airport development, it must account for crucial key factors, such as traffic type and demand forecasts, Economic factors, and investment requirements. These elements are essential for ensuring that the Airport long-term business plan is adhered to. A comprehensive and structured masterplan will ensure the successful phased development of an airport, whilst maintaining operational flexibility and efficiency, and minimising the risk of facilities being poorly located or inadequately sized, resulting in restricted overall airport capacity.

Kansai Airport, built on an artificial island in Japan, is sinking faster than expected. The video explores its construction, challenges, and efforts to save it. Despite ongoing issues, the airport remains operational but faces an uncertain long-term future. 𝗦𝗼𝗼𝗺𝗮 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 In the 1960s, Japan's Kansai region was struggling economically, losing out to the rapidly expanding Tokyo area. To boost development, officials proposed building a second airport to complement the existing Osaka International Airport. However, expanding the current airport wasn't feasible due to its location in a residential district and previous issues with land seizures for airport projects in Japan. After careful consideration, a site 5 km off the coast of Osaka Bay was chosen for the new Kansai Airport. The project faced initial resistance from local fishermen concerned about their livelihoods, but the government resolved the issue through compensation. Construction of Kansai Airport was a massive undertaking. The biggest challenge was creating a sturdy foundation on the seafloor, which consisted of alternating layers of sand and loose alluvial clay. Enjoying this article? Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport Undergo Major Rehabilitation #Engineering #Construction #Supplychain #Tenders #Contract THE Ninoy Aquino International #Airport (#NAIA) is set to undergo a transformative overhaul aimed at improving mobility and modernizing air travel in the #Philippines. The New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), a consortium led by San Miguel Corp. (#SMC) and Incheon International Airport Corp., has taken over NAIA's management and operations, committing P170 billion to bring the airport up to global standards. Under the 25-year public-private partnership (#PPP) agreement, the government stands to gain as much as P1 trillion in revenues, which can be reinvested in other infrastructure projects across the country. #NNIC will remit 82.16 percent of its annual earnings to the government, ensuring a steady revenue stream while improving mobility services. The overhaul will continue over the next three years, with more significant upgrades aimed at improving accessibility and efficiency. These include runway improvements to accommodate more flights and expanding terminal capacities to reduce bottlenecks during peak travel times. Commercial spaces will also be revamped, offering travelers better shopping and dining experiences. In the long term, NNIC aims to make NAIA a truly world-class airport. Plans include constructing a new terminal building capable of serving an additional 35 million passengers annually. This will further ease congestion and enhance the airport's ability to handle increasing traveler volumes in the coming years. Connectivity will also be vastly improved with plans to link NAIA to the future Metro #Manila Subway, offering passengers seamless public transportation options to and from the airport. In addition, flood mitigation measures will be implemented to protect the airport and its surrounding areas from water-related disruptions, ensuring that operations remain smooth even during extreme weather conditions.
