Want to know how connected an airport is to the world's business hubs? 🛫 It's not just about the number of flights. SEO Amsterdam Economics has prepared a measure that combines airport connectivity volumes with service sector linkages and the importance of cities: the Power City Access Index. It is a more nuanced way to understand the actual value of an airport's network. Top 5 airports 🏆 by Power City Access Index are: 1. LHR | London-Heathrow 2. CDG | Paris Charles de Gaulle (Groupe ADP) 3. AMS | Amsterdam-Royal Schiphol Group 4. FRA | Frankfurt (Fraport AG) 5. Great success! Improving capacity by improving processing times and building resilience towards flight disruptions are the two keys to operational excellence.
Head of Market Global, Ronald Schulz, and our Head of Solution Group Infrastructure & Operations, Ilias Maragakis Maragkakis, had an intense time at the 6th Philippine Airport Modernization and Expansion Summit from 17 - 18 July in Manila. One of the standout moments at day 2 of the event was Ilias’ presentation on "Operational Excellence for Airports and Airlines: Maximizing Asset Utilization". His insights on the latest trends and future directions in airport operations received a lot of positive feedback. The summit featured insightful presentations, discussions bilateral talks around airport projects and their plans to optimize their services and operations. At this conference, government authorities together with the private sector, including contractors, suppliers, solution providers, consultants and stakeholders, both local and international, are working hand in hand. This joint effort can help improving terminal security, connectivity, overall passenger experience and equipment modernization. A big thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this event. The collaborative approach of this summit is very promising for the future of airport operations in the Philippines. #PhilippineExpansionSummit #AirportOperations #Collaboration #OperationalExcellence #LufthansaConsulting #AviationIndustry #Airports #Philippines #AirportModernization

Climatebase Fellow at Climatebase, Masters in Sustainable Air Transport Management, Sustainable Aviation
Addis Ababa Bole International was already Africa’s busiest airport in 2022. This new Ethiopian airport plans to serve four times more passengers per year. The article goes on to quote Mesfin Tasew, the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, who says that the project will "prioritize environmentally responsible practices in our country and beyond, reflecting the airline’s commitment to innovation and sustainability". 4x more passengers = 4x increase in negative environmental impact (at least!) If this industry is going to survive the climate crisis all commitment to innovation and sustainability needs to be going into finding the complex solutions to the current problems, not just adding more fuel to the fire. *I do need to add that if anyone has the right to grow their aviation markets, it is the emerging markets like those in Africa. Even worse are the plans, for example, for several of the UK airports to continue expanding, and the Saudi project to build the mega King Salman International Airport. Europe, North America and the Middle East need to be the first to lead the way to fixing the problem that they have caused.

In a speech to the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal, ADM Aéroports de Montréal CEO Yves Beauchamp said it is overseeing plans to spend nearly $4 billion in a bid to reduce congestion and ramp up capacity at the country's second-biggest flight hub. It aims to complete the projects by 2028. According to a Statistics Canada | Statistique Canada report (dated July 28, 2023) in 2022, passenger traffic increased significantly at Canada’s four largest airports. Toronto/Lester B Pearson International, Vancouver International, Montréal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau International, and Calgary International each reported roughly twice the passenger traffic from 2021.
