Client: "We've been searching for this Software Engineer for 4-months" Me: Interesting- why could this be? Client: "We want them to come onsite everyday and we're located 1.5hrs outside of Berlin" "Oh and they need to have worked with JavaScript, Python, .net, C#, Java and be good at DevOps" "And speak German!" Me: Ok, have you considered this person may not exist? It's highly likely that if you've been searching for someone for a SE position for longer than 4 weeks there could be a problem with your requirements. With this client I initially advised best course of action is to pinpoint the tech they will work with on a daily basis and search for these people. If your office is located outside of a major city or hard to travel to consider searching for candidates to work on a remote basis or who could come to the office on a less frequent basis. Most of the time if your struggling to hire you have to look internally and see what could be going wrong, whether it be the processes, requirements, salary or work location. Devs- Let me know some of the wild requirements you have seen when job searching ⬇️ #techhiring #realisticexpectations #germanjobs

Are we Software Engineers? Web Developers? Programmers? Computer Wizards? Hackers? The seemingly endless supply of labels and titles can be exhausting. I’ve heard both sides of the same debate coin, and I’m not sure what I would consider myself. Probably something unrelated to these titles. I have been an Associate Fullstack Software Engineer”, Junior Software Engineer, Software Engineer II, and Web Developer. But did these titles really indicate different jobs? Not necessarily. I would call myself a technical problem solver. Though there may be various levels, at the core, my job is to solve technical problems. But this strength came from work outside of software when I worked in project management and building engineering. Does that mean it isn’t applicable? Of course not. My job does not just entail Web Development or programming. It’s problem solving, time management, project planning, testing, architecture modeling, sales pitching, etc. Can that really be wrapped up into one title where one means more than the other? I don’t believe so. Whether you are a Software Engineer, Web Developer, Cloud Architect, or Programmer II - you carry your own talent and passion. Focus on selling that to others rather than your title. Be proud of everything that you cram into one industry that is Software Engineering. #software #webdevelopment #programming #softwareengineering #management #careergrowth

There is a genocide going on. The Only Role That Matters Now Is Speaking Out. #Palestine will be free.
I wouldn't hire: - front end engineers - backend engineers - database developers - typescript developers These are sub-optimal specialisations that really don't make sense in my opinion and for what I do. We build solutions and the most efficient way to build them is 1 person. But that is not scalable, so we add another person and that is a little more scalable and we continue to add until we have the scalability and resilience we need. Those people we add are fractals of the first or on the way to be - they have a wide range of skills that cover most of what we need and most importantly, are willing to learn and play in areas where they are needed. Ultimately code is code. That is what I believe and how I have built my company and teams to operate. That is what I recommend any engineers starting out today. This ultra-specialisation is a consequence of poor product development approaches in big companies that have treated people as specialised cogs in a wheel. Then when these cogs are discarded, they have spent 5 years do that specialisation and it is perpetuated until a point where changing to do something else - even in the same discipline becomes nigh on impossible. Engineers - you own your career and it is a career of utility - of being useful - be as useful as you can be. That is all. #NoMoreBS #tech #computing

We're looking for someone with experience across a React/Typescript/Next.js/Tailwind stack to help us architect and implement our frontend codebase. I'm hoping for a few things from applicants: 1. Autonomy. We're a growing team. We need people to be able to share the load in terms of maintenance tasks and feature development. That capacity has to be multi-talented and self-directed. If you already know how to discuss technical requirements, give feedback to product teams, write technical documentation, perform and receive code reviews, and manage personal tasks, then you might be the person that we're looking for. 2. Experience. We want people who have used certain technologies long enough to have opinions on the right and wrong ways to do things. We want people who've already found some of the sharp edges or gone underneath the surface of the tools that they're using. We thrive on pairing and discussion. If you like talking code as much as we do and have the knowledge and experience to help shape our technical roadmap, I'd like to talk to you. 3. Curiosity. Our team is small enough that we often need to wear many hats. I don't need someone who is an expert on CI/CD systems to join me. But I would like to see someone interested enough in the Software Development Lifecycle that they want to learn and have their hand in it. We've already set up our infrastructure, but I'd love to work with someone who's actively interested in network topologies and willing to share that knowledge. We write our own SQL queries, so I hope for someone that can author rudimentary queries but with the desire to improve. If you've ever used a React hook and wondered "How does `useState` actually work?", then I'd like to explore it with you. In return, I'm happy to commit to supporting our future engineer so that they grow in their role with us. I want this to be an excellent opportunity to do work that you can be proud of while also growing your knowledge of modern web apps and networks in both breadth and depth. *** I also don't want anyone to read the job description and immediately self-select out of it because they don't meet all of the requirements. I don't want a lot of people who would otherwise be wonderful additions to my team decide not to apply because they use Vue instead of React or they aren't confident in their AWS expertise. If you're reading this and on the fence, I ask that you are both realistic and generous to yourself. https://lnkd.in/erhqZ2ix

Software Developer vs Software Engineer ⁉ The software development industry is booming, expecting a 25% job growth from 2022 to 2032, driven by the market's projected expansion to $1,039.89 billion by 2030. When selecting professionals for your project, distinguishing between software developers and engineers is vital. Software engineers apply engineering principles to design, develop, and maintain software on a large scale, while software developers create software using pre-made tools on a smaller scale. Google trends show "software engineer" is more popular than "software developer," with Glassdoor indicating higher average salaries for engineers ($113,002) compared to developers ($97,304). Key Differences: ✅ Education: Developers usually have a Bachelor's in IT or Computer Programming, while engineers may have degrees in Software Development or Engineering. ✅ Responsibilities: Developers work individually on smaller-scale projects, while engineers focus on team-based, large-scale problem-solving. ✅ Problem-Solving: Developers seek creative solutions, whereas engineers adopt a systematic approach. ✅ Involvement: Developers can participate in all stages, while engineers may be involved in specific phases or the entire process. ✅ Scale: Developers address issues on a smaller scale, while engineers tackle larger-scale challenges.
