There are a number of factors that can put you at a higher risk of acquiring C. diff. Current or recent antibiotic use increases the risk by 7-10 times. Other risk factors include being aged 65 or older, admission to the hospital for more than 8 hours, admission to the ICU, residency in a skilled nursing facility, use of antacids, and recent gastrointestinal surgery.
