This excellent Campaign for the Arts & University of Warwick report provides some compelling insights into arts funding in the UK.  Australia and New Zealand are similarly under severe funding pressure from Goverment. It's a no-brainer that government funding is essential for the arts and creativity to thrive. Additionally, organisations must be equipped with commercial and business development capabilities to articulate, leverage, and advocate their inherent value through strategic partnerships. These partnerships are essential to underpin organisational purpose and generate funds for growth. Empowering arts organisations with the self-sustaining skills to define an enterprise-wide understanding of their value proposition and strategically unlock it is not just about survival—it's about ensuring they continue to flourish and enrich our society. Strategic collaborations can unlock new opportunities, drive innovation, attract new audiences, and secure new capabilities, revenues, and funding streams. But yes, as Justine says, it's also a no-brainer that government funding is critical to providing organisations with the stability to plan for overall sustainability and lasting success. Additionally, sector-specific and organisational performance benchmarking across key measures is vital to evaluating performance, identifying new opportunities, and planning for success. The latest in our IAA-series "Transcultural Aesthetics" (Volume 5): We Have Always Been Transcultural; The Arts as an Example, by Wolfgang Welsch Wolfgang Welsch, an eminent co-founder of transcultural aesthetics, demonstrates for the first time that transculturality – the mixed constitution of cultures – is by no means only a characteristic of the present, but has de facto determined the composition of cultures since time immemorial. The historical transculturality is demonstrated using examples from the arts. While transculturality was often viewed with reservation where political, social, or psychological levels were at stake, it was rather welcomed and appreciated in the field of art. The book therefore demonstrates the historical prevalence of transculturality via all areas of art and does so with respect to all cultures and continents of our world.

There have been many stops and starts since beginning my PhD back in 2020, but things are moving forward. Religion and belief, regardless of position, are undeniable in their importance for many individuals and communities in their sense of identity, belonging and motivations for civic engagement. So, it is striking that the dialogue, particularly academic dialogue, within the arts and culture sector has long neglected conversations on how faith communities can be considered by major public art institutions. I hope this research continues to create foundational dialogues on how our public cultural institutions can consider and connect with religion, as a concept and as communities in a deeper way. 'A Second Look: Racial Equity and Arts Funding in Greater Pittsburgh,' supported in part by a National Endowments for the Arts’ research grant, is a 5-year follow-up to the Arts Council’s 2018 Racial Equity and Arts Funding in Greater Pittsburgh report and explores if, how, and in what ways arts grantmaking in Greater Pittsburgh has progressed toward distributive justice.
